A beautiful group of sites, right on the Newport River. No showers/normal toilets, but plenty worth it!

One of the true hidden gems of NC primitive campgrounds! Grounds are well taken care of, the sites are big and not to close to each other, and the host is very nice.

The camp is nice but it should be closed during "bug season". As soon as we arrived we were attacked by a swarm of flies, no amount of bugs spray helped. It was so intense that we had to leave 20 minutes later. We could stay longer.

Campsite was full of mosquitoes and bugs. Would not recommend this campground during summers.
Also there were some other campers who had loud music and neon lights till 4am in the morning.
I expected Park authorities to warn the campers for creating the nuisance, but no such action was taken.
We left the very next day even though se had bookings for 3 nights as the nuisance and bugs were unbearable.
P.S. we did had bug spray but it was of very little help.

Host started yelling out me the second I pulled into the campsite about my dog. We had just got out of the RV and she started ranting “get that dog on a leash. She questioned who I was .
Unfortunately my site was right beside her trailer.
I left immediately. Avoid this place.

The people running the campground were very friendly and recommended some good spots for us to pick given the available space.

Would recommend picking 15 and 11 in order to be close to the water and have some privacy. Overall great experience. Visited in late winter and on a Sunday night, so I can't speak to bugs or crowds for this spot.
