It had been about 9 years since I had camped here back in college, and I decided to return with my husband and our small child. We arrived and loved the campgroundit was just as beautiful as I remembered. Its well kept and lovely. We stayed at site 9. Id seen mixed reviews about the site as its close to the restrooms, but I thought it was a nice size and there are some trees between the site and the shower house, so its not intrusive. The office folks were friendly on the phone, and after we set up they helped my 4 year old and I get some firewood. The weekend didnt go exactly as expected. The area received a lot more rain than I think anyone was expecting, and the river rose pretty quickly during the day. Thankfully one of the campground hosts/staff came by to let us know that the conditions were abnormal, and offered us to move to site on higher ground in case the river continued to rise. With a small child and a dog, breaking down and setting back up in the rain with a rising river nearby seemed stressful, so we made the decision to pack up and go. However, we will absolutely be back and felt incredibly welcome during our short time at Black Mountain Campground. You can tell the folks running this place take pride in their little piece mountain, and they are warm, gracious hosts. Barring the inclement weather, I know it would have been a delightful trip.

Wonderful camp! Great access to Mt Mitchell. Camp hosts were an absolute pleasure to meet and speak to. Very knowledgeable about the area and super friendly.

Main host Bob wasn't unfriendly but he wouldn't address issues. The host on the river trail, Patricia was the female there and I didn't know here husbands name. But, these were some very rude people. They half cleaned the bathrooms and put out toiliet paper. The man would go around in the woods looking in people's campsites. Caught tipping on his toes as he walked by campers also, as to be looking in. The women were uncomfortable around him. Been going there 34 years, and wife's family, around 40 years or so. Never meet host this rude and for that goes at any camoground, anywhere. I ran a generator first night, wife and daughter said I had to due to health condition. But, was told we couldn't do it and for the rest of stay we only ran it in the respectful times. After that, the next 7 to 8bdays we were trrated like a disease. I was told by another camper we had meet that Patricia and her husband in the river trail were telling other campers bad things about us. Treating our family like trash. There were 6 camping spots we took up for a week. When my wife and grandson and I left, Patricia was at the road clapping and yelling, yea as we were leaving. I then had to tell her how rude they had been. When I'm there this year and those host are there and they are caught peeping. I will call the ranger and the sheriff's dept. No arguing with them. I have reported this several times and no reply yet. These folks must had retired from a prison or something. Maybe boot camp. But I will not put up with someone peeping in my campsite or camper. And who let's them work there are just as guilty. Like Bob , the main host. Didn't do anything but let it go on. Had to get toiliet paper from their box on the golf cart one time and Patricia's husband like to have fought over it. Very rude people.
