Campground facilities were the cleanest I've ever seen! The bathrooms and showers were cleaned at least once every day, and were in excellent working order. Our campsite was clean and had everything we needed, and the camp hosts were friendly, informative, and helpful. This is an excellent camping spot if you want to do the hike up to the top of Mt. Mitchell like we did.One tip: be prepared to keep your camp site clean and store all food and scented items in your vehicle due to bear activity in the area. We were given extra warning about this upon check-in. We took it seriously and had no problems with bears though.

Beautiful location with hiking trails right from the campground. Delightfully quiet and peaceful! Camp hosts are friendly and helpful with local area. Directions to the campground entrance could be improved. The area has obviously had more residential development and inadvertent turns in the dark led to the need for backing down roads in the dark with a camper trailer.

The camp host was very informative and friendly. The grounds and bathrooms/showers were very clean and taken care of. Wonderful stay! Looking forward to next time!

Lots of kid-friendly hikes right from the campground; river with wading, fishing, and swimming; clean facilities and friendly hosts. With all that, who needs electrical hookups?

The campground itself is very nice and there is a good amount of space between the car camping sites. We stayed in site #20 and it backs up to a small stream and you could hear the Toe River behind us as well. The site was flat level with plenty of space for our 4 person tent and a pop up canopy tent to put over the picnic table. The bathrooms and showers were super clean and we were glad to have them after we hiked Mt Mitchell. The campground hosts (sorry I did not get their names) were super friendly and very helpful. We ran the battery completely dead on our truck and they were quick to respond and give us a jump start and we were on our way. Thanks so much! p.s. We will definitely be back.

The camp host, Joe, and his wife were amazing. I’ve never had cleaner facilities or more welcoming activities. They really took great care of the campground. Hwy 80 into the area is pretty tough and not recommended for trailers. There’s easy access to a lot of great hikes and the river is right next to the camp ground for fishing. There’s a slight micro climate that lends toward wetter weather than the lower elevations so it is best to be prepared for some precipitation. It is a heavy bear area so be prepared to store food in a locked car.

Beautiful campground! Friendly, courteous, helpful folks at check in. Cleanest restrooms ever!!! Lots of hiking, fishing opportunities!
