Beautiful spot, off of a dirt road so there isnt a ton of traffic. Very clean campground, saw a ton of wildlife on the hike around the lake. Will be back for sure!

Cozy little campground and well maintained. There is quick access to swimming beach, fishing points, and hiking trails. The only downside is no dump station. It is more than 15 miles to the north or to the south to access a dump station. The road in, FS 105, is dirt, but easily navigated. The campsites and loop road are dirt too, but all level and well maintained. Restrooms were spotless and camp host very friendly and helpful. Sites 1 - 4 have water and electric service, the rest do not.

This one one of the most beautiful campsites that we have ever stayed. The view from our site(#2) of the lake was so peaceful. The site was large and level. My only complaint is that the shower wasn't heated. The weather was quite cold and that made the shower room very cold, not conducive for me to shower.

We loved Camel Lake, and hope to have the opportunity to stay here again. Didn't use the restrooms, but there was someone there daily who appeared to be cleaning. Small campground, our site was on the water, no one next to us, but the sites are spacious even if there was. Nice trail around the lake.

We never even stayed, but was charged. I tried cancelling early morning of the first day before of arrival of 2 day stay. Online said I would receive $20 back in a refund. However, recreation.gov was NOT allowed to cancel the reservation. I was told to call THIS campground directly. I called two or three times, was told a Rec Manager, David Mooney, had to cancel. Well, he REFUSED to cancel the reservation. He kept ALL of my money even though I was owed back $20 refund on my credit card AND they would have been free to rent the second night again. I emailed to report this, but never heard back from the Park Service either. This was first trip I tried any of these campgrounds. Left a bad taste for me. I will use other Parks in the future.

We rely on camp bathrooms and this one is a bit odd. The shower particularly wastes a lot of water as the flow sprays everywhere but on you when you stand under it. Many tent campers and families means this one stall unit gets a heavy work out. Better than nothing but just a better shower head would help a ton. The park is nice with good beach and pleasant trail. Very small and heavy rain flooded area and drive in while we were there. Quiet was wonderful

It was July, so there was no one else in the area accept one other site that was occupied. It was an RV that was having issues with the electric hook up. It apparently blew the breakers in their very nice coach. I would be upset if I had to make repairs to my coach because the National Forest maintenance did not keep them up to standards. I overheard the camp host telling them they had put in work orders for the electric posts in our site and theirs months ago. Also that the door that was put in the restrooms was needing finished. The door had been replaced but you could see the framework still. It had taken 15 months apparently to get it replaced as it was not even finished. I think the overall disrepair of these little out of the way gems could benefit greatly by more attention from the higher ups that delegate the park work orders / money the camp hosts request for maintenance issues such as this. This is not the only place we stayed on this trip in our National Forest locations and I am deeply saddened that our funding is not going to the smaller places like these. They need the same funding our larger more commercialized National Forest locations get.

Great scenery, quiet, and great volunteer hosts. This is a true wilderness camping experience with all the comforts like water and power and a level site. Road into campground needs a little attention though.
For starters the amenities for this locations were excellent. Secured trash cans were everywhere. The bathrooms were neat and this is an excellent quiet get away.

Such a hidden gem. We booked one of the few electric spots .great views
Beautiful rural campground with some electric/water sites and primitive sites. The current camp hosts in October 2021 are not maintaining sites well and they are full of fire ant mounds! Was also here in April 2021 and camp sites were in great shape, but lake was closed to swimming. It is ridiculous the lake is still "closed" to swimming due to alligators. They really need wildlife officials or locals to remove the "problem" gators so people can fully enjoy this lovely lake. It's normal for lakes in FL to have gators. If gators are a problem they need to fix the problem! Don't count on cell phone coverage at Camel Lake and enjoy being unconnected to your phone.
We had a wonderful visit at Camel Lake Campground in Apalachicola NF. It's a beautiful campground with a really pretty lake and swimming area. My husband fished in his kayak twice and didn't see any evidence of anything but catfish and mudfish. That was disappointing.
The camp host (I believe her name is Wendy) was wonderful, helpful, and friendly. She kept the bathrooms spotless! We'd definitely go back but next time, we'll go when it's cooler!
On our recent 8 night camping loop we found Camel Lake to be the best campsite. The host was excellent in all aspects. Beautiful small lake, well kept bathhouse, and well kept grounds. I would recommend highly!
