Now ifthere wasn't a CONSTANT freeway drone from I-90 a couple hundred yards to the north . . . day and night without respite. Be prepared.
Finally, SHAME on the Forest Service for the abysmal condition of the gravel road from the freeway exit to the campground - a measly 1.6 miles took us almost 30 minutes with our small trailer, crawling through giant troughs and potholes at <5mph. The State Park ranger I met said the USFA usually grades the road once a year in the spring, but they clearly forgot his year. Atrocious, no other way to describe it.
Things to be prepared for: Visually, the spot is peaceful and isolated, but I-90 is just across the river and you'll hear it all night. The sites are well-prepared and cared for with fire rings, a picnic table, and room for at least one large tent in each site. Most have deep enough entries for a trailer and vehicle.
The amenities are just above bare bones. There is no lighting in the campground (which I liked), so don't forget a flashlight or headlamp. There are plenty of trash bins and pit toilets. Water is via an old-fashioned hand-pump and the pipes are iron, so consider bringing water just in case.
