Toilets were clean and free of odors.
Baker Lake is a quick drive across the road and the Baker River Trail is a great, nearby hike.
Most of the campground had been clear cut, presumably due to a recent fire as evidenced by charred tree trunks surrounding the campground. The timber from the clear cutting was simply dumped/piled in multiple large mounds around the campground. This clear cutting created two issues at the campground:
- no shade for most of the sites (brutal during sunny days)
- standing water for mosquito breeding
Our sites (#3) was one of the few still encompassed by shade trees. Our friends site next door (#4) was not and they were unable to take afternoon naps (had a toddler with them) in their tent, due to the lack of shade and heat. The mosquitoes were BRUTAL in the late afternoon/early evening.
The clear cutting (and abundance of mosquitoes) was not noted on the campground description page. However, after the fact, I did see someone review the campground on Google Maps Reviews and they noted both of these things. Kind of wish we had seen that before we booked...
