This was a beautiful little campground on the Sauk River. We stayed in campsite 14 which was right on the river. We loved listening to the rushing sound of the river. The campsites on the River are close together but everyone was respectful of sound and the rushing River helped, too. No cell service at all (which we loved!). Campground was clean. Remember- no water anywhere in the campground so bring in what you need. Darrington is a 40-minute drive.

Stayed for two weeknights in the summer. Campground in general is very secluded and off the beaten path. Riverfront sites are pretty close together and you will definitely be in sight-range of your neighbors, and hearing-range if they are loud ones. The site is on the river - though access for this site in particular has a small level change in order to reach the similarly small beach area. It's large enough for a couple camp chairs though. Site 12 seemed to have the best sandy beach area and river access, but also lacked any sort of privacy and is particularly close to Site 13. If you were a group who needed or wanted two campsites - that might be the ideal setup.

I was here one overnight during the middle of the week in August. Several sites were unoccupied including two right next to me on the river. Vault toilet was clean (as vault toilets go), paper was provided, and bear-proof trash cans were a nice amenity. Some sites nearer the road might have more traffic noise but by the river it felt like I was alone and the gentle rapids and an occasional crow were all I heard. The riverfront sites were close together with little brush between, so be prepared for possibility of a noisy group of children or party-goers within visual and hearing range. Most sites seem a little small for anything more than a tent and one vehicle, others had room for a couple vehicles and more than one family/group size tents; a couple sites looked close together for multiple family set ups. The riverfront is mostly rocky, challenging ankle and knee strength, and there are only a couple sandy places - I can imagine on weekends the sandy spots suitable for a lawn chair would be in hot demand (every site had reservation signs posted for the upcoming weekend!). The massive old growth cedars scattered around the campground are fabulous and add to the ambiance and reminder that WE are the visitors to a river and forest that has been here looong before our lifetimes - we all have a duty to protect and preserve the great trees, the river quality, and keep nice spaces like Bedal and others clean, safe and open for public use. Recreation.gov was super easy to use and provides the basic amount of information to pick a site, but upgrades to show individual campsite pics would be helpful.
