This place is absolutely beautiful and we love it! HOWEVER, be very careful with the water use! I got an e-coli infection that nearly killed me! We did not drink the water, but we did use it for dishes, cleaning, etc. The water MUST be boiled!

Had a wonderful time staying at the Henneberry Cabin this last weekend (May 3rd/4th). The weather was gorgeous and we had so much fun fishing, roasting marshmallows, watching birds, and just hanging out in nature. We only reserved it for one night, but going forward we will definitely get it for two because it is just so nice. The cabin itself is beautiful and well maintained. It was as clean as you can expect a 120 year old rudimentary cabin to be. The floors were nicely swept, it has a few nice carpet rugs, and the kitchen was stocked with some cooking dishes and silverware. There was plenty of firewood, which we used in the woodstove to keep warm over night, and then in the cooking stove to make breakfast on Sunday morning. There are mice in the cabin, but that is to be expected since it's not lived in and there aren't any cats there to keep them at bay. The sandhill cranes were traveling through and it was awesome to watch them fly over and land in the field in front of the house. The water that comes from the pump out front is not potable, so make sure you bring your own drinking water. The vault toilet was clean and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. I highly recommend staying here!

No fancy-pants will enjoy this 1905 BLM cabin but for those who don't mind roughing it and value natural and historical ambience over modern comforts, this is a sweet little set-up. THE GOODS: large and bright for a turn-of-the-century cabin; electricity; working oven/stove; efficient/effective woodstove (some chopping may be required); easy river access; modern and lighted outhouse; private setting; bald eagles, waterfowl, and mammals (tracks); quick trips to both Dillon and Clark Canyon Resevoir; cabin-related historical information and photos about the family; games/puzzles/books from past visitors. THE NOT-SO-GOODS: no actual doors on bedroom so you hear Uncle John's snoring throughout; occasional trains blowing past across the river at night but with windows closed no worse than the snoring; outhouse a few yards away which could prove terrifying to those prone to midnight memories of teen-scream horror films or (mountain) lions, (runaway) tigers or (MT) bears (oh my!); clean-but-not-really-that-clean outhouse (bring your own lysol, tp, and hand wash/sanitizer if you truly care). CONSIDERATIONS: potable water not provided so it helps to bring it; road may be drifted or drift over in winter; some evidence of mice in outhouse (none we saw in the cabin but you know - it's a cabin)- so storing yummy-smelling everything may help; some hair of questionable origin on the furniture so bring sheets to cover if you get the easy ick; mid-night fire stoking or very warm bedding essential in cold months. OVERALL? worth it if you're into that sort of thing (we'll be back). Thank you BLM and taxpayers!

Went Henneberry for Thanksgiving, cabin is in a great location, vey beautiful. Mice were a bit of a nuisance (bring extra traps), place was not picked up by last guestsleave it better than you found it. Thank you FS for maintaining these cabins, beds were comfortable and clean.

Mice yes. Mosquitoes yes. Bunk beds short. Water pump very stiff in AM. Hot days. Water was raised from 500 to 900 so fishing slow. I donated a coffee maker to make it a better experience for others to come.

As usual, this place was beautiful with a beautiful setting and amazing history. Unfortunately, it’s become a little bit dilapidated as a lot of the amenities are poor since they first started renting this. The water pump wasn’t working, the dishes were not particularly clean, the mice are quite rampant inside, and there’s a lot of dog fur that people have not vacuumed up probably because the vacuum that they have there doesn’t work. The our house was quite gross as well. we left it cleaner than what we found it but it needs touchup.

Great place to stay. Not fancy but has everything you need. Running water and ability to get a shower would make it perfect. Also cooking pot selection is sparse.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
