I Loved visiting Middle Mountain Cabins. It was quite the character building 18.2 to get there. Unfortunately it was complete overcast the night we were there, but I can image the view on the nights sky from that place. I will be back for sure!!

This was an awesome adventure! The cabins were perfect! The water pump rendered great water, the propane stove/oven and propane fridge worked perfectly! There was plenty of firewood and plenty of cooking/eating utensils.The ONLY thing I could suggest would be a big BOLD warning to not follow GPS, but take the dirt road straight south from Wymer. I followed my GPS and it took me south on 27 from Alpena, to a road (463) which was gated by the National Forest. I will definitely book the cabins again! It rained the entire time we were there so we left the tarp we had erected near the fire so the next renters may be able to enjoy the fire as we did.

We had a wonderful time at the cabins. There are signs leading all the way to the cabin from Route 33. Make sure to top the gas tank every chance you get. This is the wilderness & it's remote. The main cabin has a fridge, it worked the whole time we were there, but got replaced by a new one the day we were leaving. There is also a stove, but we didn't use it. The top burner did light, but we didn't try to light the oven. We cooked outdoors on the grill & over the fire. Water by hand-pump...need to pump hard & fast to get it going. Pond is a beaver dam. We didn't swim in it, but they did fish in it & caught some. Good swimming hole at Bemis. When researching we found a 3-mile trip walk to a waterfall, but it is way further than that. Part of our group left too late & was unprepared, so we had to go in to get them and walk the 5 miles out the tracks to Bemis. The trail is rocky with tree roots. It's 1.5 miles up a mountain & 1.5 miles down the other side to the tracks, then another .5 mile to the falls. If you plan ahead & leave early could be a nice hike. We started in at 4pm to get the group out & arrived at our car in Bemis around 11pm. It wasn't a good time, but hey, we brought home a memorable story.

This was our first time at the cabins. We had a great time. The fireplace was really comforting at night. We loved having access to the trailhead from our site. Everything was clean and there were even dishes, a stove, a refrigerator, and places to hang lanterns. We will definitely be coming back next year and we will bring more lanterns. It was very peaceful and it was great to get away!

The bunk houses are usually rather dusty and musty, but the main cabin was fine - and the kitchen is better equipped every time we go. We have also contributed to it's contents. So nice to have firewood provided!

Best time ever.
This is my fifth trip. I can't think of a more beautiful and relaxing couple of days.

Great off grid experience. This is the second time that we have stayed here. I was not happy that the water was not working. We were not told ahead of time, so I was unable to make preparations. Location is private and quiet. Great place to unplug and get away from it all.

Wonderful cabin experience. When properly prepared, MIddle Mountain Cabins offers wonderfully peaceful seclusion. I would definitely return in the future.

We love staying here! Be sure to bring all dishware and cookware, as well as a container for carrying water from the pump to the cabin. Excellent birding, fun ( but wet) on the trails. A beaver was resident- probably temporary- at the small pond bEside the cabin.

the weather was beautiful, the cabins accommodated everyone. we always enjoy cooking over the fire. fished at Spruce Knob Lake and got to watch an Osprey in action. the grandkids call the observation tower at Spruce Knob a castle. we even created a couple of scavenger hunts for kids

Directions were wrong. Be prepared to be on a very curvy one lane road with no signs and no service for AT LEAST an hour. Park rec people couldn't give the names of the roads or navigate properly, which lead us further into the mountain and were still lost. Never made it there..so maybe it exists? There’s no pictures..just saying. If you miss it, the cabin spot that is, don’t worry 40 miles of that one lane dirt road with no service will eventually lead you to a small town close to the Virginia state line. Beware of the office hours too, they’re the only ones who know s of the cabins existence, so don’t call after hours or your out of luck. They didn’t want to refund any of my money either, I can understand to an extent why..but nothing at all? And I obviously had trouble finding it with the imaginary “signs” they claim they have. If your coming from Wymer, take middle mountain road till PUB ROAD 14 (not listed as FORSET ROAD 14), and approximately 18-19 miles later it should be there..somewhere..that’s the best info I can pass on to all y’all..good luck

Fireplace is great! There was lot's of wood available.

Very quiet. Went on long hike. The trail is not marked and may be tricky to follow for beginners.

Amazing location far from the madding crowd. Just don't get lost on the way there like we did. The directions on the website are a little misleading methinks, But we would go back in a heartbeat!
