Very beautiful area! Once you hit the dirt road coming from Mayfield, its 20 miles on a dirt road and will take an hour to get to the top where Twelve Mile Flat is located. The turns get pretty steep especially when youre towing a trailer. The steep parts have wash board marks from other vehicles, so your car shakes like crazy and it makes it a bit more challenging to get up the hills. Lots of blind corners, so go slow and stay on your side of the road. The drive down doesnt seem as steep, but it does still take the same amount of time. It wasnt super busy which was nice. We saw a ton of wild life, and there are all kinds of ponds you can drive to within a few miles from the campgrounds. The campgrounds are well taken care of, and are very quiet at night even with the camp sites right next to each other. People do drive a bit fast around the campgrounds so just keep your kids and pets off the roads and stay cautious of others driving on their RZRs & 4 wheelers. Overall, very beautiful place. Spectacular views and well maintained area! We came from SLC so Im not sure wed come again though just because it is quite a far drive. But, Im glad we have been at least once.

There is a very long, silty, gravel road to get to the campsite shared with fast moving ATVs. The road is well-maintained and marked. There are lots of BLM campsites up the mountain before arriving at Twelvemile Flats. The campsite is very tucked away, surrounded by trees. We have a roof top tent and stayed at Campsite 12 - it was extremely easy to park, and so level, we didn't use any leveling blocks. We were glad to be in that site, because to the left along the ridge line got the brunt of the wind. It was extremely cold at night (high 20s), we had thunder storms, hail and wind, which was unexpected in mid-June. We live at sea-level and were worried about altitude, but had no issues. We brought our mountain bikes, but didn't use them because there aren't any dedicated bike paths we knew of in the immediate area (and sharing the road with fast-moving ATVs seemed scary). The bathrooms were the nicest, most well-maintained vault toilets I have ever seen, but still vault toilets. There is no water, so come over-prepared! There was a fire pit (grill grate was broken) and concrete picnic table at each site.
