This is a beautiful location and the cabin is wonderful. We went the last week of June. We will return but wait until after the 4th of July. The "road" that is recommended to access the cabin was in really bad shape. We might not have chanced it in the truck except by the time you see how bad it is there is nowhere to turn back. We made it to the cabin though. There is an alternate road that looked a lot more accessible but it was block by a huge snowbank. We learned from others that someone comes and clears the snowbanks off the road just before the 4th of July. Sure enough we saw a huge font end loader heading up the canyon as we were leaving. We will return but at a later time in the year. I had no idea how beautiful that area is and the traffic on Skyline dies down in the evening so it is pretty quiet.

Had an enjoyable two night stay at Seely Creek guard station. It's the first time I've ever stayed at one of the many ranger/guard stations and it was a cool experience. The goods: beautiful scenery and a lot of land to explore. Isolated, at least a mile from Skyline drive. All the amenities you need. Was pleased to find I had cell service (Verizon) while there. Also, the solar lighting worked great and lasted several hours. It was also a fantastic escape from the rain. The not-so-good: the rain, while this can't be helped, the roads are indeed difficult to pass in bad weather. We had an AWD SUV and a 4X4 truck and we were sliding all over the place and bottoming out. I WOULD NOT attempt these roads in a car or a lower SUV. It also puts a damper on the trip when you're wondering if you'll be able to get back out. The previous people didn't pack out their trash and we killed about 40 flies the first night. Finally, the photos seem to be a little older and things look a bit more run-down than shown. Not a big deal, but it's nice to know what to expect. I would consider going back, but I'd plan a little bit differently next time.
