My party stayed at site 23. Luckily for us the cold weather kept the bugs away. Site 23 was very spacious and flat. It was far from the dumpsters but accessible enough to all the restrooms that we were able to use the ones towards the less occupied side of the campground. In terms of the area. Mt. Figueroa Lookout is a nice 5 mi round trip that makes you work on the hill but rewards you with a great sunset or sunrise view. Not sure which site it is, but the one at https://goo.gl/maps/QKUFH4QFU91pJ7Mo8 is small but has access to a big clearing to its southwest. Quality wise, the site was very clean and restrooms very clean and useable as well.

My biggest complaint is the amount of flies and bugs that are there. Other than that it’s an great campsite and very quiet.

Great views, and an awesome hike, really kicked our butts! However cant wait to go back! Not great for our RTT as the camp sights where not very level. Each site had on level area abut 10ft. From the car.

First for the positives... Mt. Figueroa Campground is filled with very spacious campsites. Having the fire pit and charcoal grill was a plus. There are also several trailheads close by. For the most part this campground is well kept and the ranger who monitored the campground was very social when she made her rounds. The drive in and out of the campsite takes about 20min. up or down a long winding one lane road nothing closer if you plan to do something during the day. We were there during a major heat wave, it was Hot Hot Hot day and night. Now for the not so positive... As others have said the bugs/black flies can be intolerable. The bees were also a major issue and nothing seemed to fend off the swarms. We had purchased a screen house unfortunately the zipper broke day 1. We had to cut meals short and spent a great deal of time covering and stashing food. Plan on eating after dark, it was a bit better then but with 2 little not always easy. The 2 bathrooms by us were OK for the first day. After day 1 one door was permanently locked for the remained of our 3 day stay and the one left open was quickly an unhealthy situation. An alternate bathroom site was better but walking that distance at night was not an easy option for several in our party. Not sure why they were not cleaned at least once during our 3 day stay. All being said we would return to this campground if we could identify a timeframe before or after bug/bee seasons... if that is even possible. It would be a great place for our family to relax and enjoy our time together.

The campground itself is nice. The campsites are spacious (though lack privacy) and the bathrooms are clean. July may not be the best time to camp here as temps are high and the flies are a bit obnoxious. I'd love to come back to this spot in the early spring while the wildflowers are in bloom. This specific trip was very unpleasant for another reason...many of the campsites were basically mini frat parties. Many groups were partying late into the night, particularly the group immediately next to us. One of the campers vomited right outside our tent in the middle of night. They were really loud and obnoxious and we ended up leaving after the first night. If you're looking for a spot with respectful neighbors, avoid this campground. I'm not sure if this campground is regularly monitored, but it certainly wasn't this past weekend. Perhaps it's more pleasant during the week. Perhaps it's more pleasant during non-pandemic times. But for the time being, especially on the weekends, we will not be going back here.
