Great campsite especially if you want to be close to Morro Bay. Host was very kind. Firewood available on site for 10$ a bundle.

Tons of earwigs, the wind was intense to the point that it made it nearly impossible to cook food over a camp stove or have anything sitting on the table without being blown away. That being said, the place is absolutely beautiful, the trails are definitely very challenging and provide some beautiful scenery, and the park itself was very clean of trash. No showers, that is my fault for not realizing it, but was a little disappointed when we got there and could not shower. Generally speaking, the firewood that is made available at the state parks is very overpriced and low quality. it burns fast, and for ten dollars a bundle you get maybe 30 minutes of fire. This is something that has been an issue at every state park in CA that we visit, not specific to Cerro Alto.Quick drive to Morro Bay, which is always awesome. Personally, I could go without the generators that other campers bring along, we go into the outdoors to get away from these kinds of noises and it is just bothersome to have someone in a campsite right next to you running their generator all day so they can power their TV and Radio and Microwave. Personal preference I guess. If CA could set up some campgrounds that did not allow generators or other noise-making equipment, that would be awesome.

Very nice, clean, well-maintained campground. Location gets very windy due to the canyon and there is lots of poison oak, but the campground itself is very nice and in a convenient location for exploring Morro Bay, where it is much more difficult to get a campground reservation.

One of the most beautiful campgrounds that I have ever been too, and I've been to a lot of campgrounds. I cannot recommend this place enough. The only downside is that cell service is very poor

Stayed here for one night and it was perfect. We chose campsite 19 and the location was great. Close enough to the bathrooms, next to cerro alto trail for hiking. The campsite was spacious enough to fit 4 tents if you really wanted to.. Although there is no water right now it was not an issue at all. Id definitely recommend this place. Also, the beach is only a short 15 min drive!

Campsite #19. The campground is secluded at the end of a long paved road. Campsites are located on either side of the road which ends in a culdesac where the trail head(s), camp host, and day parking is located. Restrooms are pit toilets and stocked with toilet paper. There is potable water on site. The hiking trails are worthwhile. #19 is in a corner of the campground, directly adjacent to the trail head and site #18 with little privacy between the two sites. However, I found #19 to be quiet, spacious and relaxing. The site is boarded by a creek and has plenty of shade. The toilets are located on the other side of the culdesac and far enough away that the odor was not detectable. You WILL be asked by hikers, "Is this the trail head?", so expect that. Very enjoyable campground.
