Previous campers at my site did not check out until 3:30 pm. Therefore, I was not able to set up camp until after 4 pm. It was dark an hour later. Not a good experience.

Quiet time of year so not a lot of campers here. I was allowed to have a fire and I enjoyed that. Pit toilets looked a little neglected so I didnt use one. Nice to be away from urban areas.

Beautiful campground with hiking and birdwatching opportunities. Close to Morro Bay for fishing, surfing, kayaking, biking and dining. Dog friendly.

Cerro Alto is one of the most beautiful campgrounds I've ever stayed in. Large campsites, very clean and quiet. Beautiful surroundings. I will definitely be back. Thanks.

I had an amazing time at this campsitedefinitely a 5/5 experience. It was quiet, peaceful, and totally secluded, which made it perfect for introverts or anyone just looking to unplug and enjoy nature without neighbors nearby. We heard and saw wildlife, and the whole area felt like we were deep in the forest. The beach is only about a 15-minute drive away, which was a great bonus.A heads-up though: the road leading in is very narrow and winding, so I wouldnt recommend it if youre an inexperienced driver or if youre bringing a big truck. It can be a bit nerve-wracking getting in and out. If youre staying at Site 8 like we did, I recommend using the bathrooms to the south. The western bathrooms were pretty much inaccessible on foot because of water running through the road. There is some poison oak near the creek and nettle in the grass, so if you have small kids or dogs, youll want to be extra cautious. The site is down in a valley, so it gets pretty cold at nightdefinitely bring extra blankets or something to keep warm while sleeping. One last thing: I didnt see any trash bins around, so make sure to bring a trash bag and pack everything out.All in all, it was such a beautiful, peaceful spot and Ill be back!

We like this campground since it is relatively quiet and close to Morro Bay.The outhouse was extremely dirty and the large dumpster adjacent to it was full. The smell was very bad.

I like the campground, and my hike on the trail was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the vault toilets were overly full. The employee of the company the Forest Service contracts with to run the campground told me that only one business will clean them out because people put trash in them, so they had to wait until the one guy would come to do the job.

Very lowkey spot with minimal campers. Many wildlife birds. Nice campgrounds and friendly hosts.

It was our second time at Cerro Alto and we decided to bring the little siblings for their first camping experience. Everyone had a blast. Campsite was clean and host was very friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

Our site was perfect. The rangers were attentive and checked in with us. The Vault toilet was clean. We really enjoyed our stay.

Camp Hosts Justin and Rose were wonderful. The vault toilets were kept clean. Our spot #8 was perfect for me, especially since I am a car camper. It did get very cold in the night, but, it was mid-February in the mountains! If I were a camper who could manage to walk into a spot, I would have chosen site # 11. It is beautiful! The only con is that the water was not drinkable. Make sure to bring your own water.I will definitely be back. During the mid-day, we went to the beach at Cayucos which has both the pier and a nice playground on the beach. We drove up to San Simeon to see the elephant seals, and were blessed to see both the herds of zebra and elk along the way. We also made sure to get food at Taco Temple in Morro Bay. Mornings and evenings we spent in camp or walking along trails in the campground. It was a delightful trip, and I can hardly wait to go back!

The campground itself is in a great location, but the actual campsite is too close to the road. There is only one road in and out of the campgrounds and all of the campsites are right off the road. There seems to be a lot of people just driving in and checking things out and then driving out. Also, there were so many ticks in the grass around our tent. Our dogs were covered in them. The campgrounds are an easy drive to Morro Bay and Atascadero. We would not go back.

We loved this camping experience! Great but brutal hike to the top of Cerro Alto, and great mountain biking. We also loved Morro Bay activities. Hope to come back soon to scuba dive and whale watch!
