We visited for Thanksgiving weekend. The camp host were really nice and helped us with all info for places around. They also moved us to a better spot as one opened up. The place is really nice and the toilets are really well maintained!

We did not have the best experience at Wheeler Gorge. Our site was the first site past the gate on the right. It was right next to the road with virtually no buffer between our site and the tarmac. The stretch of road seemed to be a place where cars like to accelerate or on occasion race each other. Granted, we booked the site last minute and this was the only space available. It looked like there were plenty of other sites not directly on the road and likely much quieter.

The campers at the site across from us did not arrive until 8pm. They immediately turned on a generator and left their car running and high beams on to set up their camp. According to the site manager, generator hours were until 10pm and there was nothing we could do to get them to quiet down. In past sites we have stayed at, generator hours ended at 8pm. 10pm is way to late. To hear a generator late into the night really put a dampener on our stay.

We will not be returning to Wheeler Gorge.

While the campground itself was fine -pretty standard -we were surrounded by the neighbors from hell. They had 3 campsites and were blaring music until 11pm every night and had brought flashing lights even for their party. While this rudeness is not the campground's fault, the fact that the hosts did nothing about it despite being literally 2 sites down, is. For instance, my son was horrified that they were having bonfires during wildfire season when it was also very clearly stated they were forbidden, so he told the hosts. They said they were about to go on their patrol, 2 minutes later, they drove slowly past them -with 2 bonfires going -and did not even stop. Shocking!!!!!
