This site is a diamond in the rough. There is no water at all, so bring in everything you need. No trash, so bring out everything you bring in. Only one toilet. The camp sites are very spread out, so most people would drive down to the toilet. If you plan on using two sites for a larger group, just realize they could be 100m or more away from each other (which I think is a good thing). We camped late November and it was COLD! There were absolutely no fires or open flames as the Santa Ana winds had kicked in. But honestly I don't think we would have been able to start a fire in the pit even without the winds. So without fire warmth and the sun setting at 4:45 and very limited water, it was a unique camping experience, and one of my favorite. The location is incredible, the ocean and valley views are magnificent, the rocks and trees and cosy tent sites are lovely. I will go back without a doubt. Stoping in Ojai for lunch on the way up is a perfect break before hitting the very curvy mountain road. This site is for campers who have their stuff figured out and together.

Great site that is secluded and private. Lots of great trails and breathtaking views. I went in early September and it was very dry and windy. No campfires or stoves allowed. The wind actually blew very hard right through our site for about 16 hours. Lots of confusion on the first come first serve sites and the reservations. I made reservations six months in advance and my dates weren’t listed on the reservation card at my site. I had to show my confirmation to someone who claimed the site (site #4) for that weekend. Other than that, it was an amazing experience and well worth the trip. I will be back.

Never got to stay, called us while we are on our way up and let us know there were no fires allowed now. The low was going to be below freezing that night so that wouldn't work for us and no refund. Not great service.

The site is excellent, the views are great and the location is choice. However, the fact that it is managed by Parks Management Company is absolute horse manure. As soon as PMC took over "management" of this and other nearby camping/recreation areas in the Los Padres National Forest the raised rates significantly (often 3 to 6 times what it used to be). Prior to PMC, the rates were $5/day per site for day use single occupancy sites or $30 for a full year for access to all sites via an Adventure Pass. PMC was supposedly going to make improvements, but I've been using this and other sites in the LPNF and haven't noticed much of a change with the exception of increased visitation by PMC personnel who only seem to be interested in making sure they are getting their money. I actually ran into one of these folks when I was up there this past trip and he tried to feed me some BS about how they had improved the site and pointed to the pit toilet (literally a single seat outhouse) as one of their upgrades, to which I quickly told him to sod off as that facility had been there for 10+ years, long before PMC took over. Oh but he made sure to collect the extra money for the extra vehicle fee ($10/day for extra vehicles). I get it the Forest Service is strapped for cash, but I'm pretty sure tax payers funded the initial construction of these facilities, and while the current state of gov affairs perhaps don't sufficiently support the maintenance of said facilities it is nonsense that the FS opted to hand over "management" of our tax payer funded facilities to a bunch of crooks who fleece us further. In short, the site is awesome if you like to camp in fairly secluded areas, wildlife is great, but beware of the PMC leeches, they'll get you good.
