We lucked out. Very low traffic. Had the entire campground to ourselves. Beautiful views and weather.

breath taking views, supreme stargazing action, and... aliens?! Reyes Peak has been my go-to spot for years and it is a true gem. And yes, I experienced extra-terrestrials while camping here and it scared me senseless. I can't give it five stars because I am a spoiled car camper and this place lacks the amenities I prefer such as a flush toilet and potable water. If you have not been, you are doing yourself a disservice. Make that wild drive up the mountain, break out your hammock, and if you happen to see a red light in the valley that multiplies and it looks like it is getting closer to youget into your tent asap!

There is a Yellowjacket nest under the fallen tree 10 feet from the picnic table at site 5. From sun up to dark they will be aggressive toward you - especially if you are cooking meat or have anything sweet/sugary. They will sting you when you try to put your food - which they now consider their food that you are taking from them - away. This is my second time at Reyes peak site 5 and both times it was bad. The park service needs to kill the nest. Otherwise this is a beautiful spot.

It's a great location, however, there was smoke that weekend which prevented us from staying. On top of that, another party had already set up camp at our site. The camp host was nowhere to be found so I did not have an opportunity to discuss the situation. After reporting these issues I requested a refund but was denied. Pretty disappointed.

The views at Reyes Peak are unlike any other campground we have ever been to. The sunsets are unrivaled and the stars were stunning. But, the rock climbers who kept parking in our campsite, walking through our campsite, and climbing the rocks not even 10 feet from our tent while we were trying to sleep were quite annoying. And I don’t mean one group, over the three nights we stayed there this occurred with 8 different groups consisting of 20+ people. If we ever go back it will be to a different campsite. Site 5 not recommended.

Spacious campsites, great views, some decent hiking trails nearby.
