Amazing place! Amazing staff. Sweet all around. Just needed to choose the right spot and I didn’t get to see all the photos of each spot and ended up in sun since the early morning til night.

We have often gone hiking on Mt. Pinos but McGill campground was even nicer than we expected. When we arrived we realized the site we had reserved did not have any shade for our tent. There were lots of other sites open and the campground host had no problem with us switching. The only hangup was that we arrived on a Tuesday, which was the host's day off, so we could not ask her when we first arrived even though it was after check-in time. We set up camp anyway and asked her later when she came by to see if we had paid.
We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet the campground was. We went mid-week and didn't hear other campers at all, except as they drove in and out. Believe it when they say it can get cold! Were were there June 22-24. The daytime temperatures were warm in the sun and comfortable and in the shade but it got chilly overnight. We had brought a blanket to put over our sleeping bags but still wished we had brought warmer layers to wear to bed.
Our only complaint with the campground was that there were no brochures for the ADA nature trail, which only had numbered posts, but that was minor. The restrooms were clean, had plenty of TP, and didn't smell. There was quite a nice diversity of birds in the campground and lots of native vegetation. We didn't see any weeds except cheatgrass, which is ubiquitous. And we were pleasantly surprised that we got a 50% discount on camping fees with our Senior public lands pass. We stayed in a single campsite but were impressed with the setup of the group campsites we saw, especially the one near the ADA trail.
