Pros:
The campground itself is spacious and peaceful. Daytimes were in the 90's-100 but evenings were a perfect temp for light summer sleeping bags. Campfires were allowed in the ring. On our stay we saw a double rainbow and just caught the tail end of a thunderstorm with a light rain. Vault toilets were pretty clean and always had paper. The camp site signs were updated daily with clearly marked placards or envelopes to indicate reserved or available. All the campers were courteous and quiet both during day and quiet hours. Two cute loops were great for walking our dog. There are several well stocked market and liquor stores at the base of the mountain for all supplies. We also visited Fort Tejon which was a fun trip for the kids if you like historic sites, and we also escaped the heat at the Tejon Outlets which are pet friendly and air conditioned.
Cons:
The site map has been down so we didn't know what the map of the campground lay out until we drove through. Areas on the road need a lot of work. My small hybrid made it past all the potholes. There are narrow roads but a few turnabouts. Wildlife: bring Insect traps for flies and yellow jackets if you want to feel privacy and comfort while cooking and eating. We went down the mountain to a Walmart 30 min away to purchase a bug net gazebo. Also beware there are some weed that leave VERY tiny spines in your skin that prick you and feel like an invisible shard of glass. My dog had some larger, spiny weeds caught in his fur as well. Ground is rocky. We were happy to have air mattresses and pads in the tents.
