Excellent campground. Our group of 6 stayed for 2 nights and had a great experience. The campground was spacious and right next to a climbable rock. As a bunch of teenagers, we obviously climbed to the top of the rock and the views were insane. Stargazing at night on the rocks was ethereal and the other campers were mostly quiet and didnt have bright lights. The campground was right in the middle of all the cool areas and everything was easily accessible. Only downside was there no water, but we brought enough. Bathrooms were insanely clean. I havent been to other campgrounds as this was my first time at Joshua Tree, but I highly recommend this campground if you enjoy tranquil campsites and being near popular landmarks.

This specific camp site is very open with no rocks/vegetation surrounding it. Would be great for group reservation with the sites adjacent.

Great spot! Large campsite with plenty of space. Parking spot accommodated camper van as well as a large car. Not much privacy from surrounding sites, however sites 17,18, and 19 are on a bend making it feel less crowded. The boulder offers some much needed shade in the later afternoon making it a fun area for kids to play and climb. (Please be mindful of other campers while climbing the boulder.) There are alot of little critters around the campsite that can get into food and trash. Bring bug spray! There are a couple trailheads within the campsites and as well within driving distance. We recommend Ryan ranch for at the site and driving to Cap Rock. Short hikes with plenty of rocks to climb on and some shady spots, great for kids! The store/gas station is about 25 minutes *from the site* and the local walmart about 35 minutes.

Campsite was crowded and closed to other site. Gets a bit noisy in the morning with kids running around. Clean bathroom though

Great place to watch the stars at night

Beautiful park, clean restrooms. Unfortunately, there were people already set up in my spot when I arrived, even though I had reserved it weeks prior. The park was full, so there was nowhere else for them to set up. Since it was only one night, we decided to share the site. This was on a Wednesday night. So I guess get there early even if you have a reservation.

This is one of the most beautiful camp sites Ive ever stayed. There is a side hike that you need not drive to but just walk to from the Ryan Campground. The side hike takes you to ruins. I would give the campsite five stars except unfortunately we camped next to two families with eight kids and three dogs. Im not sure which were wilder; the dogs, the kids, or the parents. I named them The Louds. Loud noise and too many people are the only things that ruin this mystical, beautiful campsite.

This site faces Ryan Mountain = great views of sunrise (& quick warmth) while sunset is blocked by the big boulders. Those boulders created a nice alcove to put the tent against the wind, but it was at quite a slant so we spent the night sliding in the tent. Vault toilets were clean & lots of trash and recycling facilities. Nice central location in the park and it was nice that the campground is smaller compared to some of the other campgrounds I've been to in JTree.

Nice little campground with beautiful rock features in camp and nearby. Central location, quiet. Some sites pretty close together. No cell service or emergency phone.
