Jumbo Rocks campground was fantastic! Great place to watch both sunrise and sunset, and plenty of areas to explore right around the campground.

I love waking up here. Dawn is very beautiful both as the sun rises and as the light hits the rocks in the opposite direction. Its very peaceful and the shapes of the rocks never cease to amaze. Its well located for hikes and not too far from 29 Palms if you need a grocery store.

The campground landscape is breathtaking and fantastic. The human company not so much. All of the nights but one were quite sleepless due to exceptionally noisy and inconsiderate other campers. Perhaps an air horn at 10 pm quiet time would help those who come to camp with the only intention of partying to loud music and drinking calm down at the appropriate time.

Other campers were respectful. Our spot had decent privacy. Good experience overall.

booked sites 105-106-107 for 14 (4 adults +10 Boy Scouts). Parking was perfect, there was just enough space for 8 tents. Be sure to put your food & trash away or the coyotes will get to it. Close to multiple hiking spots in the park. Bathrooms are clean and a 1 minute walk away. All trees/bush are pokey, so try to avoid snagging your tent etc.

Not much shade; not too isolated if youre cool with that. It does allow some foot traffic from neighboring camp sites; fortunately, it wasnt much for our stay. Close to bathrooms. Pit toilets so venture at your own risk!

Beautiful place, great vibes, organized, Skull Rock trail great hike to learn about desert on short time frame. Easy to find the campsite in the dark. Clean, I will be going here again magical place.

1. We had to walk through the middle of someone elses campground to get to our camp site.2. There were extremely high winds. There was no shelter from the wind nor could we pull our car near the tent site to provide a barrier as we have done other times when desert camping. Our tent ended up ripped with bent poles. 3. Pit toilets had paper everywhere.

We enjoyed our two nights at Jumbo Rocks, but bailed before the third night because the winds kicked up on night two and our tent was a bit impacted. As night three was supposed to be higher winds, we bagged it. That said, this campground is so impressive with many very sheltered site. It would be nice to have water more readily available but hey, it is a desert area! The Oasis NPS Center had water and we had brought 26 liters worth of MSR bags so we made do. We saw many birds, including quail. The rock formations, a full moon and beautiful sunsets made for stellar photos.

This campsite is a walk in style campsite. You have to talk through other peoples sites (around 200ft) and are really close to other groups. It was really hard to sleep with the sound and lack of privacy / space between sites. We felt especially bad for the campsite next to us that we had to walk through to get to ours- there was no way to go around their site besides through.

Good park access and easy scrambling for amateurs. Almost all sites were quiet and respectful... except for the monsters who happened to be next to us at Site 105: running a camper with headlights on past midnight, playing podcasts over speaker at 3am, failing to douse a smokey campfire. You won't escape LA here, but the desert sunrise is nice.

Great campsite, love that it’s centrally located.
Things to know:
There is no reception, so make sure you plan ahead regarding calls / texts / directions / itinerary, etc.
There is no water at this camp site. This means no showers, no water to wash dishes or wash your hands. Make sure you bring enough water supply for cooking, washing and drinking on hikes.
Firewood is not available for purchase in the park. Make sure you purchase firewood at a local gas station before entering the park.
Jumbo Rocks was very windy. Much more windy than other areas of the park. Not sure if it was the time of year that I was there (March) or if that’s the case year-round.
Kudos to the park staff for keeping the toilets clean! With no water supply there is no flushing and these types of lavatories often get gross very quickly - not in Joshua Tree. All the bathrooms were clean and well kept!
Loved my stay!!

Only issue was a bit of trash and dog poop around the campsite.

We loved this spot because it was hidden from the neighbors. Bathroom is a short walk and mostly clean. Unfortunately the night of our trip was really windy and cold so we chose to sleep in our car, but the camping grounds are gorgeous, clean and peaceful. Will definitely come back.
