This review is for site 105 ONLY, not for Joshua Tree National Park.It is hard to tell by looking at the map but site 105 is sandwiched between several sites, including sites behind it. I thought the campsite was very deep based on the pictures but it's really just the table fire pit area and everything in front of it. There is no path for the site behind so people have to walk through 105 to get to the site behind. When we were there we were the only site in that area that was not a boyscout troop so that really compounded how small the site was. Next time we will camp in the 70s or 80s campsites as those seemed less crowded and more spacious.

The skull rock trail starts at the end of the campsite and is worth waking up early for

Site 105 was such a disappointment. The site is described as allowing camper vans, truck campers, large tents/tents. When you see pictures it looks fairly private and spacious. The reality was that you are practically in a group site with two other sites. Site 105 is the site that everyone else must walk past to access their sites, so if you have a tent, I have no idea where you would even set it up. We had a rooftop tent and so did the people at site 104, so it was comical trying to set up next to each other in the tiny amount of space you are allotted to park in. Be prepared to whisper to the people you are camping with, since you are directly next to site 106. Honestly, 104 was the best as it was set back a bit, but none of the sites were great. There are other spacious and practical camping sites within the campground, but this was not it. We honestly felt scammed from what was displayed online. We stayed for one night and then went to find a first come, first serve space for the next night.

We did not realize until we got there that we had to use a parking space. We left a beautiful spot to go to our reserved spot. Thank goodness the spot next to ours accommodated our slide. When booking the spot we only got a picture of the adjacent site. It said it accommodated 24 ft so we had no clue. We also could not find an overhead map of all the sites which may have helped. In essence we booked the site blindly. Sadly our first trip to Joshua tree.

Fabulous place nestled into a surreal landscape. I suggest to bring a small tent. The sites are nested pretty close together. They do have a generous fire-pit and table each. Spring winds were very gusty. Try to plan for good weather!
