Many excellent campsites were reserved but not occupied. If NPS insists on requiring online reservations, there needs to be some penalty for no-shows. Its so easy for people to reserve sites and then decide not to come. The fees are no deterrent at all. One solution is to have a chunk of sites designated first-come, first served. Or levy significant fines for those who book sites then dont show up.

The Best camping site in Joshua Tree. Awesome scenery in any direction. It seems because of all the Jumbo Raocks you can use them for cover from sun. It also helps with the blocking out of what lights there is. From the surrounding City and Military Base. Its so fantastic at night. Im a happier more relax person due to that magical place call Joshua Tree...

Really enjoyed our 3-day, 2-night stay at Jumbo Rocks campground. Our site was at the "back" of the campground and therefore was relatively quiet and void of much car traffic. The sunrises on the boulder formations were spectacular.

I had probably the most fun I have ever had at a national park campsite. There was easy access to all the trail systems near the campgrounds as well as convenient restroom locations. Would highly recommend this campground to anyone looking to visit Joshua Tree National Park!

We spend i night just near to one Jumbo rock on the campsite Nr. 73. It has firepit, grill and concrete picnic table, but not so much flat place for a tent - you have to look for it, and more than one tent could be a problem. Also we like parking just next to the spot, we came by sedan, so unloading the trunk was very convenient. The place is quiet since it is on the end of the campground. Camping in Joshua tree was one of the best night during our roadtrip in overall.

The location here is amazing. Beautiful sunset! The rocks are super fun. Note that there is one long street that winds through the campground, and some loops off the main. The best sites are on the loops off the main street.Don't forget to bring your own water as well! The nearest water is quite far from the campground.

We love jumbo rocks Campground. Lots to do for kids. Sites are pretty small. Site 73 was only suited for 1 tent. Great site for an RV or trailer.

Stayed here for one night in early August and boy was it hot. The wind was strong during the day but was gone by night. One coyote passed by our camp but was harmless and ran away after being spotted. Stargazing was great and we had no neighbors in the cul de sac. Bathrooms were nearby, easily accessible, and clean.

Beautiful and unique campsite, several having just enough privacy and plenty of places to explore from the campground

Beautiful backdrop at most campsites. The campground road was built very close to them, which means you can often hear cars driving around but it’s fine. Vault toilet shacks were kept very clean, at least during our stay. Highly recommend the picturesque little trail from the grounds to Split Rock.

Joshua Tree is a remarkable place and the Jumbo Rocks campground is awesome. Everything is very well maintained, the campground host are terrific, and best of all there is no cell phone coverage! It is paradise and I can't wait to go back.

Nice site by an aesthetic rock. The host was right across from us - helpful when we needed firewood. It is kinda close to the spot next to us just in case you wanted a site with more privacy.

Grill and firepit made it great. Only drawback is that the ground was not level. Slight incline where to setup tent.

My friends and I stayed here overnight to watch the 2021 Perseid meteor shower. It's best to go during a new moon, so the sky stays dark. We were fortunate and saw several multi-second streamers whose tails kept glowing for a second or two afterwards. The campsite was too hot during the day (95 degrees) but quite pleasant at night (high 60s).

My wife and I had a blast. It was her first time camping in the National Parks and our first time using an entirely new set of gear (clothing, tent, kitchenware, everything). Had an epic windstorm with lots of snow on the first night but it cleared up for the rest of the trip! Would definitely recommend hiking up Ryan Mountain as the view won’t disappoint. We’ll be coming back soon.

We had a once in a lifetime experience of being almost the last campers out of Jumbo Rocks before the lockdown. The quail and jays were moving in as they locked the gates. Hope to be back in February.

Amazing place this campground is. I found it quite easy to reserve and the spot had a note that it was reserved. It was also great to see that there is a possibility of getting a site without a reservation but by placing finds in the metal ranger.
