Campsites were so close that people would need to cross into our site to reach theirs

Best campgrounds in the park

Amazing campground for kids! Big rocks provide a bit of privacy, as well as a challenge for aspiring little climbers. Incredible light at sunrise. Convenient and clean restrooms. Reasonably quiet except during generator hours. Looked like most campsites have soft sandy flat space to accommodate several tents. Picnic table, grill, and fire ring with movable grate super helpful. Just grab firewood across from the visitor center and youll be a hero.

Great mid park location - love having boulders in camp to climb on and explore. Close access to skull rock also. Noise spreads easily in the desert so you can hear people even when theyre not being loud - but everyone seemed to turn in by 10pm which was appreciated. The campsites are all very close together so dont expect a lot of space to yourself. Good fire pits with grill tops.

Love love love Jumbo Rocks! Its my go-to when I want to get away from all the noise and experience some of the best of what California has to offer.

Its such a beautiful campground surrounded by these big granite rocks! Its not the part of the park where most of the Joshua trees are, but you can still see some. The campsites are usually in clusters of three and there isnt much privacy, but in our experience people werent noisy or nosy at all. The site has a good solid table, with no shade, and good flat spots for the tent.

Here is my point: Charge seniors, a group to which I belong, astronomical fees to camp, in comparison to younger people and families. Let's make it accessible and fair to all to camp--enjoyably, comfortably and hygienically.I have been camping for 40 solid years, from county to state to national parks. I have seen it all. JTNP was not a pleasant experience--and this was during the week, when things are much subdued in comparison to the weekends. My campsite was so ridiculously close to other campsites, I literally HAD to walk through another campsite to get to and from my car. Not only *through* but within a foot of their picnic table. Had to listen to another campsite's occupants talk until early morning. Had to wake up to neighbors breaking camp at 6 in the morning. This is *all* part of camping in a campground, but our very tents were within *10 feet* of one another. I am accustomed to vault toilets/latrines from my years of experience. Here there was urine and fecal smell detected within 20 feet of the building, menstrual blood and poo on the seat and floor. If people cannot be paid to maintain acceptable hygienic standards in a campground, reduce the number of sites. If the park has to, for financial reasons, crowd campsites one on top of the other, figure out another way. I would GLADLY pay 10 times as much to stay in the park. But that is *NOT* fair to all who desire to visit the park, is it?Consider a sliding scale fee so EVERYONE can visit and not be piled on top of each other and subject to claustrophobic, unhygienic conditions. As a senior, I would pay more than the standard fee so that ALL families could enjoy camping in campgrounds at a reasonable distance from one another and have access to clean restrooms.

This is a remarkable campground and we loved staying here again. Since the park does not allow any motorized vehicles for adventuring the campers are generally pretty quiet (hikers, nature lovers, rock climbers) and it is a super peaceful place. The rangers do a nice job of keeping things safe (fire safety, etc) without being heavy handed. The rocks all around are just magical!

This is a great campsite! No water so remember to bring your own! Some of the sites are very close together, 66 and 67 for example. Other than that 67 was a great site. Parking space is very close as are the bathrooms (but not too close if you know what I mean). Pretty chilly in February but I'm sure the rocks helped block some of the wind. This site is very close to Skull Rock and a short drive from other spots. Lots of dogs on this trip (mine included).

Good campsite with toilet nearby. We had a friendly bunny visit our site, but beware of the kangaroo rats getting into your snacks.
