I stayed at campsite 55.Jumbo Rocks is a great campground for families! As the name implies, there are plenty of large rock formations for kids to climb around on; they are basically a built in playground. That alone made this campground a stand out experience.The campsites are pretty close to each other, with only bushes between sites. We were lucky in that our neighboring campsite was empty, so it felt private.Campsite 55 is near the end of the road around Jumbo Rocks, so there was little to no road noise. It is a bit of a walk to the toilets, but for me that was a benefit. There is a dumpster for trash close by but not close enough to be heard opening or closing.There is no running water or cell service at this campground, so plan accordingly.Noise at night was not an issue with sleep. Neighbors settled down early. There is a surprising amount of jet noise, but it wasnt too loud, and (of course, this is the great outdoors), some animal noise at night as well.I highly recommend this campsite and campground!

We visited quite a few national parks on our visit- Grand Canyon, Zion and Joshua Tree - and had a wonderful time. Jumbo Rocks was lovely.The toilets were clean, the campsites were week situated. A great experience.Visiting from Australia

First time going camping at Joshua Tree. It was fun. Had an amazing view of the moon rising at night and sunrise. Had an encounter coyotes scavenging our site early in the morning as we just watched from our tent. Overall was a fun experience for the family. Kids loved the campfire

If coming from the West entrance, it is quite a distance from other trails, campgrounds and points of interest. One of a few campgrounds that are reservable in advance. Others like Hidden Valley, which is more centrally located, are first come first serve. Didn't see a Ranger drive by during our two night stay and had some other campers blasting music close to 12 midnight and hikers/climbers using their bright white light headlamps and car headlights to light up the area causing light pollution for stargazing. Also, found some human feces near camp at several locations close to trail. It's a shame that some people don't care and share the responsibility of protecting our environment and national parks for all to enjoy.

Jumbo Rocks is an excellent campground. The camp sites were well maintained and clean as well as all of the campground. It was nice having easy access to the Discovery Trail, Split Rock, and Skull Rock. The two Ranger programs I attended were excellent: general info about the Park and the Joshua trees and the geology of the Park. The highlight was seeing everything in bloom while hiking the Panorama Loop Trail. Lost Palms Oasis trail was also interesting and a different experience. The Ocotillo and Cholla blooming was another special treat.

Beautiful campground with just enough facilities if you bring your own water. The toilet nearest our campsite was very clean and the campgrounds were generally well-maintained.

Rocks provide protection from the winds, great climbing opportunities, and points to see the night sky.

Felt like being hidden in the rocks, easy to get to a few different trails and sights.

Beautiful campground but if coming with a camper van note that some sites have really small parking spaces so double check that the site that you reserve can accommodate an rv.

Thanks to morning and evening campfires, the campground was very smokey every morning and evening. Sadly, the air quality was probably worse than LA and Bay Area on bad days.

Great campground! Fun for the kids to climb on the rocks, hike to Skull rock, and enjoy the stars next to the campfire. Some rowdy groups late into the night but otherwise a great experience staying here.

@AlannahDDEF686 · Camped on Nov 14, 2019 at Campsite #55
Beautiful campsites that are secluded enough from neighbors. There are so many boulders nearby that you can climb and watch the sunset on. The bathroom situation is a little rough, portopotty style. The campsite is a 15 min drive to some of the main hiking trails in the park, but the campsite itself is beautiful and plenty of explore nearby.
