We stayed one night at site number 38. It's the absolute best east-facing spot. Woke up to an amazing sunrise. We spent our time walking the Skull Rock trail, which had an entrance from the campground, fun rock figures to climb, and a place to watch the sunset and sunrise.

The campsite environment is very good. Camping in the wilderness is quite enjoyable.

Visited mid-October and the temperature was nice! Not windy at all for us. This spot is big and ample, there was space for a canopy, a 4 person tent, and a 5 person tent. Its uneven but we didnt mind, you can work with it. It was far enough from the other campsites and it was away from the road. We had a wagon so it made it easy to transfer our stuff from our parking site to the campground, its a little uphill, just to keep in mind if you have a bunch of stuff.

Thank you to the ranger that moved me to another site! Love the site but large tent camping is on a good slant plus the walk-in. Great rocks. If you have a smaller tent or a motor home, you may be able to manage better. Love this park.

This is our 3rd Christmas in Joshua Tree, two of them being in Jumbo Rock Campground. This place has our hearts like no other. I forgot that our reservation was shorter than i was planning for and they had an emergency campsite we were able to utilize for the one extra night we didnt have a reservation for. I love all park staff and cant wait to be back again!

Sloped campsite but peaceful and beautiful.

We had hard time to look for the site #38 in the night time. In the shared parking lot it marked as 37,38,39, however the actual number on the table marked as 38, 37, and 39. The one on the most left is site #38. There's a narrow access to it and located on the uphill, but it's a good site with privacy and larger space than 37 and 39. Enjoy your stay!

Beautiful site. No water, but bathrooms were clean and we had lots of room and privacy at site 38

This has to be hands down one of the best campgrounds in Joshua Tree NP and maybe in the park system. It has everything you could possibly ask for (except for running water). There are so many places to hike and adventure to from around the campground. The Skull Rock Trail is a nice hike for example. The scenery is beautiful everywhere you look. The campground itself is very well maintained. Some of the sites have little privacy but if you come with friends you can easily pair one or two of these sites to accommodate your groups and have a little more space to yourselves. Also the campground is conveniently located in the park so you can explore elsewhere with ease. You can’t go wrong staying here. Just be sure to come prepared (especially with lots of water and maybe something to add a little shade to your site) and you will have a great time! Please be safe, be considerate, and leave no trace. Happy camping!

We stayed in site 38 at Jumbo Rocks campground and had some friends staying in site 37. The layout of the two sites together worked well for a pair of families camping together. We cooked in site 37 down by the cars, but then moved up to site 38, which is about 100 feet off the parking area, for campfire times while the kids slept in site 37. Site 38 has a good amount of privacy and we felt comfortable leaving the fly off our tent and sleeping under the stars. The open space around the site was fun to wander and explore. Neither site 38 nor 37 has very much shade. Shade seems hard to come by in Jumbo rocks. To stay comfortable we went into town during the heat of the day or found a picnic spot with shade: I highly recommend the picnic area at Hidden Valley as a place to spend the day!

Beautiful spot and perfect weather. For the first time, critters ate into our water jugs, likely due to drought. So you should secure those as well as food when you are not on site.

On Saturday, we hiked Stubby Springs loop trail. Lots of different scenery, panoramas, landscape changes. Walking along "ridges" and through ravines and washes. Lots to see on this 12+ mile walk. Bring plenty more water than you think you need for this one, and be sure to plan for a stop or two to rest and take in the quiet.

The crowds are big right now, so I strongly suggest entering through the north entrance in 29 Palms or the Cottonwood entrance off I10. The latter lets you drive through the less-seen Pinto Basin, which does not offer the trees and rocks associated with Joshua Tree, but provides plenty to justify the extra hour or so on the road.

Have fun and be safe.

Very cool campsite, we stayed at #15 and it was a big site. The area was private and it had one campsite in front and one way behind. I would recommend this site number. The other sites did look a little close together. We got stuck in a snowstorm at this location and was definitely a fun experience .

Visited 2/21/21: Unbelievable sunsets! Fun to hike through split rocks, climb and scramble over rocks and be so close to our campsite.

Our campsite was quite close to others but still private. Site 39. We brought our own toilet and privacy tent so we didn’t have to deal with the facilities.

We will be back really soon. Truly a beautiful place.
