This is one terrific campground! Set among other-worldly boulders and rock formations with the iconic Joshua Trees sprinkled about, it's extremely well laid out and very, very well maintained. Our campsite, #18, had a flat, coarse sand floor. No dirt or fine sand! It was set back 8n a nook of rocks. You just stepped up and scrambled right from the campsite into a labyrinth of fantastic shapes and incredible views. Would visit again in a heartbeat!

I always love coming to Jumbo Rocks campground. I picked the best site on-line. When I got there, I toured the campground and found other sites I would rather have. I drove back down to the ranger station (park entrance) where cell service is available. I was able to switch my site on the app in front of the ranger. No problem. We got one of the best sites 018. Weather was perfect. Half moon with stars out big time. Few other campers around, granted it was a Monday/Tuesday. We hiked around the whole area and ended up having to do some serious bouldering to get back. That got a little serious but we keep our composure and got out fine. No injuries, no bugs, no snakes, no animals at all.

Lovely site! If you have a spot tucked in the rocks youd never know you were even in a campground. Nice and quiet.

Jumbo Rocks is a beautiful campground! There are so many rocks to climb, and the grounds are huge. There are only a couple camping sites that look rather small, but otherwise all sites look great! Ours had some bushes and one side was jumbo rocks with a path to the top, great for sunsets and viewing the park. Our site was behind a couple others, so a few more feet from the car. We did have to move our tent farther away from the snoring neighbor. LOL Restroom was clean and did not smell bad at all. NPS really does a great job of keeping it clean. Not having running water or electricity was not a problem at all. There Is no cell service, so it's a true getaway vacation.

This was a pretty amazing site as it was quite secluded and much larger than many of the others that I saw. Be aware that it's a short walk in from the parking area to the site so gear must be carried in. Also I arrived in the dark and though I found my numbered parking spot, it wasn't immediately obvious where the site was. It sits behind 2 other sites that you must walk between and the picnic table and fire ring were not visible.

Stayed in Campsites 17 & 18 over Memorial Weekend. Lots of flat space and amazing jumbo rocks on all sides. Had an amazing experience hiking and relaxing in our campsite. It happened to be a new moon and the star gazing was intense. Weather was as expected really warm, happy we brought an easy up with tie down straps and screw stakes to make sure it doesn't blow away. Facilities were well kept.

Pros: beautiful rocky backdrop to campsites - the kids spent hours climbing around in them!Cons: super tight quarters - multiple sites (4 -5) packed into the space the of what I would expect for 1 or 2 sites with no vegetation for privacy or sound barrier. There are a handful of sites that seem ideal, but not most. Zero water! Come prepared before entering the park/ leaving ranger station.

It's a busy campground and the park service does a great job in keeping people not camping there from parking in the campground to use the popular skull rock trail. There are a mix of sites, some quite separate from others, some very close together. The surrounding scenery is beautiful and the location in the center of the north end of the park avoids the congestion at the park entrances and is convenient for various trail heads. The pit toilets could probably be cleaned more frequently

We had a beautiful campsite, surrounded by stunning rock landscapes, and with good distance between us and other campers. Quiet, peaceful. Easy hike to Skull Rock (crowded at the rock, but not everywhere along the trail). Campgrounds were clean and well managed. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly (vault toilets) and we had no hesitation about using them.

Too many flies and bees due to drought. The bathroom and camp site were clean. However, I saw some cigarette butts around the area.

There were so many no-shows and empty campsites, when the sign at the front entry of Jumbo Rock stated "Full Campground". That is sad. A new system has to be worked on to correct this problem.

I know you on the Park end, do just fine financially with people who have paid money and do not show, but on the camper end, people are robbed of enjoying the campground, and of an overnite experience at the Park.

You have smart people working for the National Park system. There must be away to create a way that this type of problem can be minimized.

One part of the problem with Joshua Tree, I think, is that the campground hosts are not in good communication with the on-line reservation system, so they do not have up to date info on cancellations. Also, to control for the spaces left empty due to no-shows, perhaps a curfew of having to check in by 4 PM is needed, so that is theparty does not check in by that time (either physically or by phone or email or text), thme campsite is released.

We always love camping at Jumbo Rocks because the kids and adults can explore without having to drive anywhere. It's a beautiful region of big rocks and caves and great exploring! I do wish there were more recycle bins but this is a great part of the park! Not sure why but there were more bees this time than any other. We opened a can of root beer and put it far from us so the bees stayed away from us but it was a lot of bees!
