The camp sites are surrounded by huge rocks. Kind of gives you more privacy. You can climb on top of the rocks too. Bring toilet paper. Evenings can be cold in January and February.

Jumbo Rocks is close to scull Rock and an easy hike for almost everyone. There are several hikes right out from the campsite.

This is a great site in an otherwise crowded campground. It is nestled against the rocks so you only have one neighbor. It's quite a small site, but we managed to fit a six person tent because we didn't need to use the fire pit. It has great shade in the morning and we had fun climbing the rocks to do some stargazing in the evening.

Beautiful site! Kids had a blast playing on the rocks and watching the sunrise and sunset! Warning to purchase firewood prior to entering the park.

Beautiful area. Campsites are very close together, so there isnt much privacy. I wish they were more spread out. Campers were very loud and obnoxious. No rangers except at entrance and exit gates.

Campsite is very close to others, but all the campsites are in Jumbo Rocks so its definitely one of the better sites you can get. This site is completely shaded all day.

Great campground for families! If you have a scooter and bike for the little ones or entire family, being them! Helmets and protective gear is a good too for the little ones.

This is a wonderful campsite. Just perfect in fact. It has everything you would want: parking and bathroom are very close to campsite. Campsite comes equipped with bbq, firepit and picnic table. The scenery is epic. You are surrounded by the jumbo rocks and tucked away from tourists. We would highly recommend this spot for both couples and families. We can't wait to return here in the future!

Love jumbo rocks! And the volunteer rangers did a great job controlling the crowds and touristy folks in a friendly manner.

What a gorgeous campground! Our first night was a bit windy, but we were snug in our camper van. The second night was just perfect - clear skies, blazing fire reflecting off the rocks. This is a wonderful campground to explore, with easy hikes and so many opportunities to scamper up on the rocks.

Jumbo Rocks campsite 006 was great. Private but conveniently located across from restroom.

This location is one of our favorites! Chose a different site in the campground than usual but it still worked out perfect. Coupled with a Joshua Tree Rainbow to begin the next day, made for the perfect weekend trip from Los Angeles.

We arrived in JT on a very busy winter day and when we arrived at Jumbo Rocks we were beyond happy to find a camp steward stopping cars with no reservations at the gate. Our spot 006 was tucked away in the rocks and had a perfect spot for out 8x16 tent. Went on a beautiful hike right outside our campsite and spent the evening under the stars by the fire.

We loved camping here. It is a crowded campground but there are many fairly private spots situated among the rocks. And lots of opportunities to walk a short distance (5minutes) to be out on your own among the rock formations. Get wood at one of the towns outside the park first. And water at one of the visitors centers.

Site 006 is probably the best campsite in Jumbo Rocks. It is big and level and tucked away far from everyone between two giant rocks. There is no way up or down from those rocks (unlike the next campsite), so nobody will go through your camp. The bathroom is very close (across the parking lot) but you won't hear or smell it.It's more of a walk-in type of campsite because the parking lot is a short walk away from the site. Thanks to the rocks, the campsite remains in shade till late in the morning. It's very private: from the campsite, you mostly can't see your neighbors. With all its privacy, it is situated immediately at the entrance, so you don't have to drive through the campground. The campground itself is very busy, especially during sunset. A lot of tourists, non-campers, come to the rocks to witness our home star going below the horizon. The bathroom wasn't as clean as other reviews stated. The Split Rock and some other hikes can be started from the campground.

We had hoped for a quiet secluded experiencewhich would have been had the campground been monitored at all. There was a group shooting some kind of music videowith of course music, lots of fluorescent lights and A LOT of people. They shot this from the time we arrived until about 10pm because they were using the lights and the rocks. So as we were trying to lay in our tent and enjoy the quietand dark we were surrounded by lots of loud music, lights and people walking back and forth. Very disappointed as the campground site was perfect.

I honestly think we had the best campsite out of the few surrounding us. There was a bit of a walking distance from the car to the site, but it was worth being right next to the rocks. We had plenty of space for 2 people and a 4 person tent. And we were super close to the restroom, which was nice.
