Campground is absolutely beautiful and it was very quiet. Only issue is bathrooms were not super clean including containing a huntsman spider :(

Still a little cold (mid 30s at night) but daytime was lovely. Campground was great as always.

Basically all the campsites have a little private alcove in the rocks. Super cool.

Love it! Love it love it! We were there for my birthday 2 weeks ago and I already have another trip reserved. It's so relaxing, and a solo sunrise Skull Rock hike should be on everyone's bucket list.

Beautiful

This place is great for kids, but it is insanely crowded! the campsites are right on top of each other and almost all of the the campsites are right on the road, which is probably great for some people but not for those who want to feel like they are in nature and away from it all. Some spots are a little more private and are great. Be careful about which spots you reserve. The park rangers were great and the sites were super clean. We had 4 nights reserved, but left after the first night in search of more privacy and less cars.

The large boulder outcroppings of this campground give it an awesome vibe. Perfect for scrabbling up and finding a high spot for morning coffee/yoga/mediation/star gazing and the list goes one. The pit toilets are what they are lol. Some spots are bigger than others so if you're camping with a couple cars make sure you ensure you pick a campsite that fits your group size.

Overall I love this camp ground and recommend staying here when making your plans for visiting J Tree

Beautiful park and well established trails! Be careful when walking off trail since it is rattlesnake country and they are out there!

Really enjoyed our time at Jumbo Rocks. Although the campsite was supposed to be full, the camp sites around us remained empty.
@BenjaminS229 · Camped on Mar 20, 2021 at Campsite #4
The rangers were much too intrusive.

Jumbo Rocks is an awesome campground. Surrounded by the massive boulders characteristic of the park, you can spend at least a day just exploring the rocks around the campground. Very conveniently close to the Skull Rock trail, there is ample activities right in the immediate area.

The campground itself is pretty large, and it definitely feels like the NPS is trying to get as many campsites out of the space as possible, so it can feel a little cramped, and privacy is a luxury at most of the sites we saw. The rocks do offer some privacy between campsites, but it is a desert after all, so don't be surprised to be able to see your neighbors. There is no potable water at this site, so make sure you pack it in. The Visitor Center in 29 Palms is probably about a 30 minutes drive from Jumbo Rocks, and you can refill water for free. Bring a lot of water, not only because it's a desert and you need to be drinking, but for all the little things like dishes and cooking etc.

The second night we were there, there was a very large wind storm and the campground nearly emptied out of people not willing to freeze their butts off overnight in tents, but we were in a camper van. Some sites seemed to have a good windbreak because of the rocks, but others were pretty exposed. That being said, Joshua Tree this time of year can have pretty big temperature fluctuations, so make sure you check the weather ahead of time, and don't skimp on bringing the warm stuff.

Overall, a great experience, with some of the most breathtaking scenery in the park!

The Calander view was a little confusing at first. But I figured it out.

The small site we reserved was perfect for us as we had a backpacking tent and minimal equipment. Pit toilets were very clean and there were plenty scattered strategically around the campground. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying our campsite in the evening—- and watching the stars appear in the dark sky.

Good for the kids, good for the adults, good for the soul. Climb a rock, greet the sun. Alter your consciousness in the affirmative. Have fun.
