Great site, very private despite being near the entrance of the campground. We slept in our vehicle which kept outside noise to a minimum. Great sunset views just around the corner, great sunrise views from the site. Very close to the bathroom without being too close. Easy trail walk to Skull Rock and Split Rock

I was here in site 3 during December, this site is in shade all afternoon at that time of year, making it chilly.. It is a nice private site but It is adjacent to several walk-in sites and there were 2 late night loud groups in those sites, like 3AM late one night

I was at #3 which was perfect! Near restrooms and entrance but no disturbing noise was at all. Best camping experience Ive had. Site is quite small tho. It didnt bother me cause I slept in my car anyway which I could back up to the site perfectly.

I stayed at Jumbo Rocks Campground last weekend and enjoyed the majestic boulder landscape and great stargazing. A thunderstorm in the distance to the east was awesome to watch while counting shooting stars. No cell service was nice, letting me fully unplug and relax. It really is a serene, almost spiritual, desert getaway.

Very good.

If possible, don't select the first sites since they are too close to the entrance and garbage containers, which means more disturbance. Don't worry about vault toilets, they are conveniently placed all over the campground. The end of the Jumbo Rocks campground offer the best landscape, IMO. It's very well located and fairly close to most relevant spots in Joshua Tree NP.

We'd seen Cholla cactus before, but nothing to compare with the intensity of the "Cholla Gardens" at Joshua Tree. And, of course, the Joshua trees, themselves, are so diverse and "complicated" . . . interesting and beautiful. The rock formations are also very unusual compared with virtually any other National Park or location to which we've traveled. From the Jumbo Rocks campground, we highly recommend the full Skull Rock Loop hike is very worthwhile while not being overbearing for our advanced senior status.

I have camped a lot over the years and have been to many camp areas. This is one of the most interesting, scenic, and unique boulder campgrounds I have ever camped at. There are various campsites; some are cozied up into the boulders, others are more open and set up for group camping, or close to your neighbors. Some are more private than others. The most unique sites fill up quickly. There is no T-Mobile service in the camp area. I chose to go to Recreation.gov and write down all of the available sites, then go to the campsites and pick the one I liked most; then, I drove a few miles to the east past Skull Rock to get service to reserve my spot on Recreation.gov.

Jumbo Rocks is nice but my #003 campsite was tiny and close to the road.

Site 003. Long, scenic drive thru the park to Jumbo Rocks from I-10. Unfortunately, I did not read access directions on confirmation email which would have saved time but beautiful drive nonetheless. Site 003 is small for one vehicle, perfect for me! Easy in and out for early exit. I suv camp usually but kinda necessary for this site. You catch every auto headlight entering the grounds. I read other reviews and was prepared to block windows. There is a picnic table and bbq area. Unfortunately the site was littered with glass beer bottles, some broken. IDK if rangers/agents check sites between occupants but this would have easily been revealed by a quick inspection. A potty is very close to the site. There is a beautiful sunrise and starlit nights. I loved the jumbo rocks bordering this site and would actually stay at 003 again knowing what I know now.

What a charming, beautiful experience! I entered the park from the south near the Cottonwood visitor center and took the Pinto Basin road up to my campsite in Jumbo Rocks (Site 003 - pro: shaded from the west, con: right next to campground entrance so a bit busy/noisy). There were plenty of features to stop and see along the way, my favorite being the cholla cactus garden. If you want to see the sunset at Keys View, maybe don't wait until right at sunset like I did because the parking lot was overflowing, and this was on a Tuesday.

Even though it was a small space, it was still wonderful - nature at it's best and the stars are incredible!

I had planned one night at this campground and ended up staying 2 nights. Looks like another camper canceled a night allowing me to pay for the additional stay. The campsite has to be one of the best ones. The view is amazing. The restrooms are at every corner and clean.

Campsite was great, the views and area around Jumbo Rocks is great. The fairly mellow trail from Jumbo Rocks to Skull Rock was great for the family (2 small kids) and gave us quite a bit to do without having to drive. My only complaint is that the campground is not monitored very well. Friday night was an onslaught of extremely loud, rude, people coming into the camp to park so they could walk out to take pictures of the stars. This went on from about 9pm until 3am. Very hard to sleep if your campsite is to the front of the camp. I would recommend finding a site towards the back of the campground to help avoid this nuisance.

You can't go wrong here. With all kinds of giant boulders. All of us loved it specially the kids. Sunrise was awsome.. Our midnight adventure was unforgettable courtesy of a Kangaroo rat which somehow snaked into our campervan. We were finally able to help it get outside. All in good fun..

Amazing place to stay! We loved it to stay here between all the rocks. Who love the wilderness and nature like us should stay here - without any comfort at a wonderfull landscape. We came from germany to see all this wonderfull places an this was one of our favourits espacially at night when stars are shining an we could see the milkyway.
