A beautiful campground and we loved our stay here. There are great hiking trails right from the campground. We loved watching sunrise and sunset right from the campground.

It was too windy to hike or even cook at the campsite the day I arrived and the following day. 3rd day was my last day and it was fortunately beautiful sunny day. I took Pinto Basin Road all the way to the Park Headquarters and it was a beautiful drive. I plan to be back to hike the trails off Pinto Basin Road next year. If the weather forecast says windy, expect it really will be windy.

Excellent campsite. Clean toilets, access to water. Sites are roomy, and other campers were not too noisy. What is so good about this spot that at the end of the day and in the morning you get the beautiful drive through the park to visit the Joshua Trees. It was quite chilly at night but we were prepared.

You need a two day stay to fully enjoy Joshua Tree National Park. Cottonwood Campground was a great place to stay. Very quiet except during the 3 allowed RV generator periods. Bathrooms were clean and Ranger staff were visibly present.

Remote side of Joshua tree

This is a fairly open campground with no boulders that you find in other Joshua Tree campgrounds. So, all noise from your neighbors travels far. Some neighbors seem to be totally unaware how loud their voices, and their kids' voices, are and how far they travel. However, there are flush toilets (other campgrounds have vault toilets) and the stars at night are amazing! This campground tends to fill up last since it's pretty far away from the center of JTNP. But it's near the south visitor center and is a ~30 minute drive into the center of the park.

Great campsite. Sites are closer together than I thought. Bathrooms were immaculate. Get an early start because most of the hikes are in the interior part of the park. The oasis hike near the campground was worth it. Go early. The parking lot fills up.

Tightly packed. Also location is not convenient to getting to the rest of the park.
