Great campground with solid hikes nearby. Amazing stars. Busy but with spacious campgrounds so it doesnt feel too packed.

Quiet campground on the less active side of the park. Nice to have a water source. Mastadon Peak was a nice close hike to view stars (in addition to the campground). You can see some light pollution from Palm Springs and 29 Palms, but less than any other spot in the park.

The Colorado side of JTNP is a beautiful and safe place to camp.

We have stayed here a few times. This campground is quiet, beautiful and peaceful. The campsites offer enough space to enjoy privacy. The sunsets are gorgeous!

Host did a great job keeping people quiet in quiet hours. It was great to see a host at this campground again.

Had a wonderful time. Lucky to be there during a full moon. The nighttime landscape was amazing!

Joshua Tree NP was an amazing place to visit. The campground was adequate but probably better suited to tents. It was difficult to get a site once in the park because it had to be done online and there was no cell service or Wi-Fi. Although all the young park rangers in the welcome center were busy on their phones while we were in there. So we had to leave the park to make a reservation.

We loved our stay at Cottonwood Campground. The facilities are clean, the park is beautiful, and the visitor's center staff were very helpful in helping us plan our hikes and drives through the park.

RV was in our campsite when we arrived at 10pm. No host to report it.

Cottonwood is a great home base if you want to explore the southern portions of Joshua Tree. There are adventures you can hike to right from the campground like the Mastodon Peak trail. If you want to see the Mojave/north/northwest side of the Park be aware it’s a bit of a drive to get there from this campground. Overall the campground is nice and peaceful with plenty of great stargazing. Cottonwood boasts flush toilets and running water which is the only place for these luxuries outside the visitor centers. The campground is well maintained. Cottonwood has two main downfalls however. The first being lack of privacy (it can be hit or miss depending on the site) and the other is shade or rather the lack of it. On a warm sunny day you will find yourself roasting without some kind of sun shelter or canopy. Overall it’s a nice place that takes reservations but I would recommend trying to stay at campground further north like Jumbo Rocks (reservable). I find the campgrounds up there to be more enjoyable than Cottonwood. Happy camping!
