Spectacular view especially at night. Everyones friendly and respectful. Drinking water, tap water, and flushable toilets available on site. Definitely family friendly.

Clean campground with clean bathrooms and running water. Lots of families at this campground!

Very tight campground, you could hardly drive through with the other rigs parked. Most sites are not even close to being level. In this day and age there should be cell service everywhere, none in the park at all. I don't recommend it at all.

This campground is in the south east section of the park close to the cottonwood visitors center. It features level spots with a picnic table and fire pit. Some spots are back in while others are simply turn outs from the main road. Very clean CG and excellent bathroom facilities. There is also a nice dump station off the entrance road. It can get very, very windy here at times and there is NO natural protection from the elements. Great stargazing from here and very, very quiet at night. Highly recommended.

Sight was listed as 25 ft. Just a little over. Campground not designed for trailers. Posts for site numbers are in the turning radius for backup. Several of the numbers were down. Might be more cost effective to paint or use thermoplastic stencils.

We went in late May. It was a bit hot; around 90F. It was hard to get shade, too. We set up some chairs under a shrub, and we were OK. Once the sun went down, it quickly got much cooler. Overall great campground! Clean bathrooms! Awesome panoramic views of the Colorado Desert and mountains!

Cottonwood campground was very nice. It’s located at the southern part of the park which is further from some of the main attractions. The camp host, Margaret, was friendly and helpful. There was a ranger presentation at the amphitheater on Saturday night. The only drawback was there were no lights in the bathroom so be sure to bring a flashlight or lantern for that.

Campground “Full” sign was listed even though there were still sites available online through this website. Otherwise it was really good. The restroom area one of the best in the park - including running water.

We have always enjoyed Joshua Tree. Our complaint is with the same day reservation system. Sites in the park were not posted with reserved or open signs, staff at the visitor center could not tell us what sites were available and there is no internet service anywhere near Cottonwood campground. Very frustrating and we spent way too much time driving back and forth to verify availability and reserve a site. Yet a sign at the campground reads “ If the entrance station was closed when you arrived, pay your camping fee the following morning” and “Park staff will be available in the campground throughout the day to accept payment”. But none of them can tell you if the sight you want is actually available…. Not very efficient or customer friendly.

Campground was peaceful and nice. Understand the convenience of online reservation however sometimes it’s hard to tell online what site is gonna suit are needs. However, if you wait to check out the sites in person there is no longer phone service and therefore no way to reserve a site after 4.

Good place to view the night sky with some light pollution still present. My site was clean but many of the surrounding sites were very littered in the morning. I have never seen a National Park campground littered like this before. Says a lot about SoCal and this park’s enforcement tactics. Also lost half my parking due to some one using my campsite as a parking space.

This campsite was great! It was very small and VERY packed which meant it was super noisy. We also didnt get much sleep because, besides the noisy neighbors, there was a pack of coyotes yelling. There was also TONSSSSSSSS of bugs! But the experience was amazing. We stayed one night, mainly for stargazing, Cottonwood did NOT disappoint. We saw the milky way, Jupiter and Saturn! Bring your telescopes!

Running water & clean bathrooms. This is the campsite that is most comfortable to stay at.

Cottonwood Campground offers trail to the Lost Palm Oasis Trail via a clearly marked desert connector trail. The campground is also a reasonable drive to the busier side of the park. It does not offer any hook ups, but does have a dump and fresh water station. The campground is situated on a hillside which does require some leveling. Campsites offer tent and RV accessibility. We experienced high winds with little shelter or shade in any part of the campground. Positives reasonable price
