Cottonwood is perfect for night sky viewing (our favorite of our cross country trip!) and is conveniently close to Cottonwood Spring and one of the visitor centers. Unfortunately the bees are unbelievable, even in early October. The palm trees seem to be their hives and they start buzzing past you as you begin to hike the trail that cuts past the spring- keeping us from hiking the trail more than a few hundred feet. They werent too bad at the campground, but they do bother you in the restrooms and are all over the RV dump station and kept us from using that as well. Over all it was a great campground for one night, but I wouldnt want to stay more than a few days if the dump and water arent safely usable.

Office closed when we arrived. Signs and maps available and helpful. Site was tight for 29 RV. No hookups. Bathroom was clean and close. No shower. Nice hiking trails. Cottonwood is super convenient to I-10. Then very scenic relaxing 35-mi drive thru park into 29 Palms next morning.

A little cramped since most of the sites include only pull outs for parking and small campers, but overall a nice place and I had a great stay. Start your day with a beautiful hike out to the Mastodon Mine.

Pretty good spots, gorgeous location. Not too many spots too crowded together compared to most of this style of campground. There were loud people until about midnight drinking every night I was there. I didn't mind too much even though I don't drink, and it wasn't wild loud, just not a very quiet campground, which might not be great for everyone.

Very informative and friendly hosts! The campsite was beautiful and the hikes and drives recommended were even better. We would definitely stay here again.

I would’ve given it a five star rating if it had showers. I read bathrooms but didn’t realize that they didn’t have shower accommodations. Are used to only do day trips to Joshua tree but this was my first time doing a three day camping. I just feel that if it had showers the experience would’ve been a five star

Super remote and awesome place. Went in the winter so no worries about temps. This spot is near the south part of the park. We came from that direction so we visited the rest of the park the next day after staying overnight. Saw some friendly wildlife and neighbors. Sites are nice and spaced apart depending which you pick, includes places to bbq and park.

Cottonwood campground was a great place to camp in southern Joshua Tree. The campsite was lovely and Joshua Tree is a magical place. Drinking water was available and the restrooms were nice and clean. The only downside was noisy neighbors one night (not following quiet hours policy) as the campsites are pretty close to one another, and it was COLD in late January. However I would visit again but maybe wait until it warms up a bit.
