Absolutely loved this site! Its far from the rest of the park, but the super dark skies and plant life make it worth it. Its also worth it to mention clean bathrooms with running water.

Camp site A11 was a good size, but no pull in parking. The hiking trail to Mastodon Peak is right next to it, but very few hikers were walking by, so it was not a problem. Bathrooms are clean, with flush toilets, but there are no lights and no showers. We drove in from the west entrance at Joshua Tree, then did some day hikes in the central portion of the park, before driving down to the south end where Cottonwood is. The campground is about 40 minutes from the busier attractions. The trail at Cholla cactus garden is closed, but you can still stop, park and walk around all the plants. We saw some shooting stars at night. We went at the end of March, and the weather was good, but windy at night. Would recommend this campground, although it is more isolated than others in the park. It has running water, and most of the others don't.

This was a great, quiet little campground secluded from the main area of the park. I booked this campground for casual stargazing in December, and was not disappointed. Many campsites (including mine) face out into landscape and thus have a great open view for stargazing. The bathroom facilities were clean- just remember to bring your own towel if you want one!

Campsite was next to a trail and restrooms. Site was clean. It was my first time camping in the desert, be advised of high winds!

The facilities were extremely clean. The campsites are spaced apart for tent camping. Cottonwood campground is at the less busy side of the park so the night views are stunning.

Obviously a beautiful national park. The site was great really love visiting, love the hiking, no complaints 'except' I find it exceptionally hard to believe that of the 176 trails(in alltrails.com) in the park the government couldn't allocate "ONE" trail of any real account for pet usage. ONE trail of 5-10 miles is not going to destroy the entire Colorado/Mojave desert ecosystem. Two trails allow dogs 0.1 miles and 0.5? It's insulting to be frank. That being said the park is pretty awesome.

This is one of the best spots in the whole place. Away in the corner with access to the mountains behind. Its absolutely gorgeous!

Spent 1 night at Cottonwood, the sunset was amazing and the sunrise was beautiful. Our site had some small bushes and we could park right beside the site so we set up tent with the car on one side and a bush on two other sides to help with the wind. Walked down the trail right beside the site and explored a small oasis. Plenty of room at the site and well spaced between sites, the bathroom was clean, trash bins were well located. Happy with our stay!

We were surprised to find that the bathrooms had no electricity, but the lack of light pollution allowed us to see the most wonderful night time sky. We very happily accepted the gift of the stars.

We spent one night at Cottonwood Campground and had a great time. The bathrooms were very close by and very clean :) I would definitely stay here again and recommend this site to anyone looking to stay in the eastern side of the park.

Campground is easy to find. Spots are decently spaced away from other other. Some sites have a pull-up parking, while others have parking along the street next to the site. There's a trail that starts right at the camp site. Restrooms were clean, no light in the restroom but there is running water and flush toilets.

We went during a heatwave. It was about 100, with a low of 80 something. Definitely preferable to home, where it was closer to 120.
We came during new moon specifically to see the stars. We were not disappointed! The night sky was glorious! This campground is extra dark. Even the bathroom did not have a light. We appreciated that. The bathrooms were small but extremely clean. This isn’t a typical Joshua tree site, no big rocks or even Joshua Trees. Nothing spectacular during the day, but the nighttime is what we went for!!
Thoughtfully designed campground. It even has propane tank disposal - a first I’ve seen anywhere!
