Overall it was good. Water availability, restrooms good, camping site clean, and great surrounding views and trails. We really didnt have to check in. There was no Ranger to check in. Rangers only come once a day in the mornings to drive around the campsite other than that youre on your own. Did enjoy the campground, will definitely be staying there again.

We were very pleased with the campground. The sites could have been a bit more level for tents, or maybe at least some better guidance coming from out of town so we could have picked a more level spot, but it worked out well enough. We would certainly stay here again.

People at the visitor center were super friendly and helpful. My campsite was clean and nice though you should bring all your own toiletries in case the bathrooms don't have toilet paper or soap. I was able to do all the hikes and peaks within the area in 5 days/4 nights.

It's a great site. It's not very deep into Joshua Tree park so you have cellphone reception, and you're close to town. There's a lavatory as well. We will absolutely be coming back - and we will venture deeper into the park from here.

Camp sites are more or less fine but roads in campground are an absolute mess - ie huge potholes and erosion.

I was in site 11. I was not allowed to bring my 13 ft teardrop trailer which would easily have fit in the space. Instead I had to pitch a tent in the wind between 2 huge trailers in a site that had all the allure of a parking lot. My worst experience at a Joshua Tree campground.

Overall it was a nice campground with beautiful scenery. Rude campground host.

Nice campground with multiple hiking trails nearby. Beautiful views of the stars at night. Clean restrooms and a free dumpstation for RVs. Potable water nearby most campsites. Nice visitors center there. Many sites have had a fair amount of erosion affecting their usable space. The roads have also taken a hit from erosion. In some parts of the campground the asphalt is so bad, you almost need a high clearance vehicle for access. Overall, a good place to camp, just be aware if you are driving a class A or C that some of the roads are tough to maneuver due to potholes.

Space was great at some sites. Our site was a bit crowded. We arrived late in the evening and it was VERY hard to follow their map to find our site in the dark. We must have circled it five times before we finally located it. Apart from that, scenic, easy to get to the campground. Convenient.

Camp ground is outside national park. Facilities weee ok. No camp host or information at the time we visited.

I enjoy Blackrock more than most any of the other campgrounds in or around Joshua Tree. Primarily due to the proximity it has to the park, but also Yucca Valley which the amenities one might need that you forgot or just decide not to cook and want to grab a meal in town. another bonus is there is cell service, which if you need to work while on the road can come in handy. The staff has always been nice, and available with any questions you might have. All in all, it's a nice spot to use as a base camp to explore the park ride down to Yucca, or just hang out..

Several good hiking trails. Only complaint would be the road to the campsite which was laced with many potholes. Need to be careful with low clearance vehicles.

On the positive side, it's dark and quiet. On the negative side, it's on a hill and most sites are very unlevel. After paying to stay, they still charge $5 to dump. It's not actually connected to the rest of the park by road. The Walmart in Yucca Valley is closer to the park entrance, flatter, and cheaper. I would not recommend this campground to anyone in an RV. Might be great for tents.

Helpful, knowledgeable rangers/staff. Clean. Good access to water. Frustrating that routes to restroom were very challenging within campground. One either had to cut through camp site of someone or take the long way around; easily solved if a simple pathway was set aside. Way too many trip hazards within site —- but campers younger than me might not have had such a challenge. Decent spacing for a desert setting, but would be approved if sites were separated by vegetation.

I love it that there are so many hiking trails accessible right from the campground. Can easily spend four or five days hiking, without repeating a hike. I wish the nature trail, and the nature center would have some of the native plants labeled. I do not think there is a single plant identified in all of Black canyon campground!

Camp Host, Will, was absolutely amazing! He made our camping experience so much better. He is the kind of person you would want as a camp host. Made us feel welcomed, educated us, looked out for us, and was so friendly. He made our trip!
