Besides visiting the National Park - We enjoyed visiting the Saturday Farmer's Market in Joshua Tree by the Visitor's Center!

We had an awesome time! So many great hikes right from the campground, although all the social trails can make it a little difficult to find the official trailhead. Had 2 bars of AT&T. Stars at night even though it's close to town. Really loved seeing all of the big Joshua Trees -- they seem bigger and denser here than in the other parts of the park. Some of the roads in the campground are in really bad shape, although others have been fixed. SUPER busy on the weekends. Can't wait to go back someday!

Site measurements are completely wrong. Booked a site and then went back and realized it said it was too small for my RV, rebooked a new spot. when we went out there to stay the site I originally had and canceled was much larger than the new site I booked. sites are not level not even the handicap site. The office is closed at lunchtime. Therefore, the restrooms are also closed.

Sadly the facilities at black rock campground are suffering from lack of maintenance and improvements. It is obvious there has been little done on roads and buildings for years. The bathroom is an embarrassment. It is a shame that our country cant find the money to keep our national parks in decent condition.

Great location and hiking trails. Campground sites and roads are well used, a bit rough, weathered, and should be prioritized for renovation.

Pros:First time camping in a national park and I liked how quite it was. The only generator that was run adhered to the time constraint that was required. Camp sites were well behaved. The trails were well marked and in good condition .Park volunteer's were very visible. Park service staff helpful. Honor system for walk in sites and dump station please honor them. I will go again.Cons:The dump station black side water supply had very low pressure that it would only trickle out. High daytime traffic for people going to hike for the day .Have to book far in advance for a reserved site.

We have stayed at Black Rock Campground a number of times over the years. The staff are wonderful. The shop has field guides and maps. If you run out of an essential item the town of Yucca Valley has grocery stores (10 minutes away). Several wonderful hikes begin right at the campground. Our favorite campsites are the ones around the perimeter where you have uninterrupted views—especially the eastern edge of the campground. You are also away from the main crowds visiting the national park—but the rest of Joshua Tree is short drive away for more day hikes. 5 stars!

Very specific to my experience but it snowed and it was windy and it took an hour to get the tent up. Had to cook sausages in the tent. That was fine. But then the next day it was beautiful out as we were driving to pioneer town when my car broke down on the side of the road. Did not have cell service. had to get my car towed and my roommate drove two and a half hours to come pick me up and pack up our campsite. I then had to retrieve my car two days later by taking two busses, a train and I walked an hour and got sunburnt for a total of eight hours of travel time. Car is still very clunky. I will be back again. All the people except for us were having a great time.

Hiking trails were good, Joshua Trees all over so very beautiful. Sites are close together so noise from partiers was a bit of an issue.

The location is close enough to town without being too close. The roads in the campground could be maintained better. A lot of campsites require leveling adjustment for RV's. It is a little drive to get to the main part of the park but there are plenty of trails that lead to beautiful areas in this part of the park.

These are very beautiful campgrounds. It would seem that these are the most popular grounds in Joshua Tree for weekenders, owing to the grounds proximity to SoCal cities. We found the grounds well-kept, clean, and well-organized. Our campsite had a nice flat, and the bathrooms/dumpsters were located in good areas. We would stay here again, if we had the opportunity (were Canadians from Ontario, so getting down to California is tricky). This was a beautiful trip at a beautiful campground. My only complaint is that Black Rock is substantially further from all the hikes & walks throughout Joshua Tree. For vicinity to those, our favourite was Jumbo Rocks (though there is no power or running water, there). Cottonwood was also VERY beautiful, but its in the Colorado Desert side of things, so the foliage is different (no Joshua Trees, more ocotillos and a different variety of yucca). Driving from Cottonwood to the Mojave side of the park was spectacular.Black Rock was the perfect place to spend our last night; it had service so we could check into our flight, and the running water bathrooms were a nice change after Jumbo Rocks.
