Its a beautiful campground with incredible views and great hiking right from the site. Bathrooms, water, RV water tank fill and dump station was a definite plus. Its West of the National Park Entrance, so good for getting on the road to head west. I would definitely stay here again!

Spacious spaces. Clean facilities. Dump and potable water available for the trailer. Several trailheads start at the camp. Nice nature/visitor center, with kind, helpful staff.

I didnt realize this campground was outside the Park. Its a short drive from Yucca entrance. Campground has vault toilets, and each site has a concrete table and fire ring. Host was helpful in helping me find my spot, as I arrived in the dark and didnt know the layout. Sites are well marked.

Be aware ground is very hard and it is realistically not possible to pound stakes in for a tent. Please make other arrangements or be prepared to use rocks to weigh your tent down.

Generous campsites (perhaps too generous - read on). Difficult to navigate. No maps anywhere, at least not in obvious places. If you arrive late and/or in the dark, good luck finding your campsite or where the water spigots are. Oh, and do not camp more than 25 feet from your vehicle, even though you mind yourself on a campsite as big as parking lot. You'll get in trouble if you do. Overall a nice campground with some unusual, stickler rules that aren't well communicated. While this campground has the disadvantage of being disconnected from the heart of Joshua Tree NP, it does have bigger and more spectacular joshua trees than the other campgrounds.

It was a nice quiet place to stay before getting my campsite inside the park

Camp site was ok, there are a lot of water runoff cracks in the ground. The biggest problem was the rangers, we got there in the evening time and couldn't really see where one site begins and the other ends. We had a larger group there, and had 9 total sites reserved, so the kids set up 8 tents in a very large area, we had total 4 sites in that same area. The next morning the ranger came and told us that we were only supposed to have 3 tents per site (which is not listed online), but because we were only there for one more night, they didn't tell us to move them. Then a different Ranger came by about an hour later and said the same thing... Again, we were not told to move, they kept coming back, and made one of our adults move their tent that was by a tree, it was not touching it and was at least a foot or two away. We were also told you are supposed to pitch your tents within 25 feet of the tables, we didn't see that written anywhere. We went on a hike and sure enough when we came back, they had come back AGAIN and said we have to move them. This is almost 5pm by this time and again, we were leaving in the morning. We moved the 2 tents as asked to make them happy and they did indeed come back again to make sure we moved it, but then they made us move two more tents... which doesn't make any sense because that left 4 tents on one site... against their rules. I was very unhappy that it felt like they were just making rules up as they went along. Claiming something about killing the plant life on the ground is why you can't have more than 3 tents per site.... which was DIRT and the cracks in the ground makes it hard to pitch 3 tents within 25ft... It wasn't even so much as those rules, but when they came the first time if they would have asked us to move them, we would have moved them, having them come over and over to our site was annoying and unnecessary. Would not stay here again only because of them, the hikes were great, and bathrooms were good.

Site 022 was sandy and never completely level but we were able to park a 20 RV/Van and sleep comfortably without leveling blocks. Overall the campground is great. Id come back if we visit Joshua Tree again.

The Park was perfect for me. I have a 24 foot self contained Motorhome had a great spot with lots of room. Clean and well maintained washrooms. Dump station and fresh water refill on site. Loved the hikes from the campground.. and easy access to all of Joshua I would go again.

I knew what I was getting into, JT on a Friday night and also knew Blackrock is basically a suburban neighborhood- but it still sunk below my modest expectations. Why? Poor policing of policy related to music and partying, I do not care if ppl have a good time but camping is supposed to be a shared space experience and subjecting others to your music past 10pm is just sh*tty and rude. Full stop. Camp hosts obviously DNGAF and that is why I have to give it a poor review.

Very nice campground with the trailhead for scenic hikes at 2 locations on site. Black Rock is easily accessed from the main highway. The campsites are well spaced. The roadways within the campground could use repaving!

Nothing fancy, but nice to be near town! The roads within the campground are quite degraded due to washouts. The signage is difficult to read, also. Id suggest studying the campground map before you arrive so you know roughly where youre headed. The office was closed when we arrived (just after check in time), so we had to find our own way to the site. The bathrooms nearest our site had running water and soap. No showers available, nor is there a dishwashing sink. There is a dumpster and recycling area for plastics and aluminum cans. We didnt use the dump station. Our site was on a bit of a slope, so we had to do some leveling. Despite the washouts, the sites are all very clean. Our site was very spacious, although each site is a different size (everything from big fifth wheels to tents) so be sure to read the descriptions carefully on Recreation.gov before booking. We opted for this campground over others in Joshua Tree National Park because it was reported to have decent cell service (we work from the road, so this is important for us). Can confirm that we had decent LTE service, although better on AT&T than Verizon. The west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park is an easy drive from the campground. There are plenty of services in the towns of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree.We enjoyed our stay at Black Rock and would definitely return!

No park entrance fee and close to services. Easy trail access for hiking. Staff was helpful but not friendly. Camp Host was invisible re guest contact and availibility. Campground is on a long slope, sites are dirt with rain wash erosion that made it difficult to level my 21' trailer. Asphalt roadway is broken up and missing huge chunks everywhere, completely useless. I gave a 'good' rating because my fridge went out first day and I needed access to fresh ice every other day, and these days not having blasting music, off leash dogs, and late night drunks qualifies as a 'good' camping experience. Still, I do not recommend this location, you would much more enjoy one of the great campgrounds I saw in the deep interior of the park.

Access to visitor center from Yucca Valley is good. Road from visitor center to campsites is very rough, lots of giant potholes. Campsites could easily accommodate larger groups but rules are strict about extra tents and campers. Restrooms are clean and were convenient from our site (22). Hiking from the campground is confusing. Trails arent marked. Its a bit of a drive to the main part of the park, but overall, for a reservable site in Joshua Tree this campground is good.
