Black Rock is always a nice campground to stay in. Weve enjoyed a weekend here numerous weekends in the past few years. It offers hikes, local stores and restaurants, or simply a quiet place to hangout. The main entrance to the NP is a 15 minute drive away. Very nice getaway campground.

There were other guests making a lot of noises. Watched tv outside their vehicle and other were listening to music. Since black rock is surrounded by rocks there was a lot of disturbance. We did not stay and thanks to camp host Ed on Atlatl we could move to an empty spot at Atlatl. People should not be allowed to use radio or tv this loud in nature.

Campground is beautiful and I would certainly recommend and return. Roads within the campground are in dire need of resurfacing and bathrooms are due for an update. Otherwise, no complaints.

Im sure everyone is aware that this campground is due for an upgrade. Roads need to be rebuilt and the campground could use a redesign. My desires would include more space and privacy between campsites. The area is beautiful and has so much potential.

We enjoyed a great three nights tent camping at Black Rock in January. The staff at the Nature Center were very knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant. We greatly enjoyed learning some tips (including making sure to download the NPS app and all of the Joshua Tree assets before heading into the interior of the park). Black Rock's water was accessible ,and the restrooms got the job done. The campground also is very accessible to some cool day hikes, such as Westside Loop and High View, and has LOTS of birds.

A wonderful place to stay. This was our first camping trip with our toddlers and it was great fun. We were able to make small hikes up the surrounding hills with our boys and we had a wonderful time exploring together. Highly recommend asking the front desk for the Junior Rangers book for something fun for the kids to do.

The Range Mike was not friendly or nice. Along with the lady who worked at the desk when I arrived. That was a turn off as I was with my granddaughter on our first road trip. I asked questions and was given sharp rude responses. I have always been treated well by Park Rangers.

Roads and signs for campsites are non existent got jammed in dead end 2 times trying to find our campsite on the narrow pothole ridden roads. Once we found our pull thru campsite was unclear which road or which direct to take to enter the site after several trys we figured it out but fire pit and picnic table ended up in back of our RV . The location is beautiful among the Joshua trees but the signage & campground roads need to be addressed badly also the washrooms are also poorly identified couldn't find ours glad we only stayed 1 night . This park has great potential but has clearly been neglected.

this campground is in need of updating. The roads to the campsites are falling apart and it poor shape. There are plenty of ruts in the roads around the campground which make possibility of injury likely. Trees are so close to the road that maneuvering a mid size camper caused damage to my unit. The campsites themself are nice.

Site #20 was a good site. We didn't have neighbors on one side, but we did on the other side. Sites are pretty close together. Site #20 was across from camp host. We were nervous about this but ended up, no one really bothered us. Black Rock Campground is small. But it was always full. We were called twice from the rangers asking if we were going to be there on the weekend that we had reserved - it was THAT popular. It is 1 of 2 campgrounds with flush toilets. The bathroom was a short walk away. The site itself was pretty flat with slight slant, we used our risers to level our Camper Van. The site could fit our Camper Van and another regular car. It's a pull through site and one can pull through on either side so that the door of the Camper Van opened in the direction of the picnic and fire ring. We did put our solo stove fire pit inside the fire ring to follow rules, but there were people who put it outside of the fire ring and weren't bothered by the camp host. It seems that overall the camp host left people alone which was nice. There is no soap in the bathrooms. They do have toilet paper. Of the 2 campsites we were at in Joshua Tree, we liked Jumbo Rocks better (even with the pit toilets). There's just so much more to see at Jumbo Rocks than at Black Rock. But if you NEED to have a flush toilet then Black Rock is your place. Cellular AT&T service was 2-3 bars. There is Wi-Fi at the Nature Center, but it didn't reach out all the way to site #20. Really, no campsites there had Wi-Fi. We did wish there was a recycling bin close by at the trash sites. There is a small recycling bin at the Nature Center. The potable blue water refill station was convenient for Camper Vans/trailers. It filled up our water FAST. The gray water dump station was also at the same refill station. It cost $5 to use which you can pay at the Nature Center or place in the box outside there if closed (honor system). Close to town and Wal-mart in case you forgot something or wanted to eat out.

Black Rock campground has nice facilities and we liked our site #20. It had plenty of room for 2 tents and a small RV. It was mostly flat. The big cement picnic table was uncomfortable and hard to squeeze onto the bench. One of the water spigots was broken but there was another one nearby. The road near our site was freshly paved, but other roads in the campground were in bad shape. Our last day there we had high winds. We saw one small tent blow about 50 yards. We did one short hike near the campground and other walks around the park. The walk we liked best was the Guided walk by a Ranger at Cap Rock. We did not like the Black Rock Nature center. There was only a store and art exhibit. The best visitors center out of all the centers was in the town of Joshua Tree, however, it was small. The other 2 centers were not as informative unless you like reading all about the Indians. We also enjoyed the Cholla Cactus garden. It was pretty but there was not much information about the cactus.

Quiet campground, with good walking trails around it. The road has suffered due to several recent washouts, and we didn't use their bathrooms as we are self contained. They looked really run down though. Big rigs may have a problem maneuvering, but we did fine with our van.

Had site #20 - a pull-thru site with electric and water on a slight slant. Easy to level. As the campground is built on a hill, our higher sight had great views of the mountains and valleys all around. The roads are in need of patching so it will be a bit bumpy as you make your way to your site. Sites are large so no crowded feeling. The dump station is on a slant to be sure to approach it from the lower side. The Hi-View trail is great and can be accessed just above site 20 by using the West trail approach. They eventually cross. Go counter-clockwise so the ascent if more gradual. Definitely explore Park Boulevard into the northern section of the park. So much to see. We also went to Palm Springs for a day following a self guided driving tour of mid-century architecture homes and buildings.

Nice campground with plenty of spaces although no hook-ups. There is a dump station. I have a 31 foot motorhome towing a 12 foot trailer and there were no issues with maneuvering through the area. Was able to keep the trailer attached in pull through site. Very convenient location to Joshua Tree day trips.
