This campground was sp peaceful, quiet and dark, with amazing views of the stars.

Stayed one night. Although the web site said there were only a couple of sites available , the campground was not even half full. So the site I selected was overlooking the dump. Very worn out and rutted. Plants looked tattered. There were no arrows or signs telling how to get around the campground and it is an odd layout. Hard to figure out which way to go and where our site was. No map at the entrance. Had a nice fire in the fire pit. Quiet night. Nice. Tried to get info at the visitor booth in the campsite and although the employees were pleasant, they were uninformed. More Greeters than helpers. I know staffing is down at NPS but this was disappointing. Will not return. Had a better experience for 3 nights at Cottonwood Campground last week.

Persistence paid off with this reservation at Joshua Tree NP - Black Rock Campground. Took me about 2 weeks of checking a couple of times a day but finally landed a spot. Wish that we had been able to spend more time. But we will be back. Good cell service. No hook ups however there was a RV dump station. Nature Center was more of an educational center for classes etc than a natural history museum like I was expecting.

This is a nice campground tucked away in the hills just above a local neighborhood. Most campsites have some shade from Joshua Trees, and there are flush toilets with potable water available. There are numerous adjacent trails for all levels of hiking, and while the paved road around the campsites is very bumpy, the sites themselves are nice sizes, relatively flat, and typical of the park with soft sand and a fire circle. One aspect to consider is that this is not located off of Park Boulevard--the 'main street' of the park and you will have to drive back down into town and over to Joshua Tree to get access to the main attractions of the park. However, if you are looking to avoid crowds, this campground is excellent. In comparison to other campgrounds, while similarly not connected to the main park by road like Indian Cove, all the campsites are adjacent/contiguous to each other whereas the individual campsites around Indian Cove are separated by rocks. Jumbo Rocks is nicer, and located in the center of the park, and a better choice if you are trying to get to places like Keys View, Ryan Mountain, Baker Dam, etc. Even at 90 degrees, for reference, the campsites--sitting at 4,000 feet--are still tolerable, and night time is a great weather. Having camped all over the park, this is a decent campsite, but I would prefer Indian Cove, Jumbo Rocks or even camping on the Boy Scout Trail if available.

Loved the hiking trails. They could be marked a little more clear

The campsite was excellent - sites were spaced apart so we weren't on top of other campers, there was a generous parking space, picnic table / bench, and fire ring, and the bathrooms were close by and clean.

An enormous RV with a very loud generator annoyed us for a few hours but then the wind picked up and we could no longer hear their droning. The site did get extremely windy and cold, but our trusty truck kept us warm.

Rangers were very accommodating about a mixed up reservation. The campsite and areas surrounding it are beautiful and well maintained. Could use a few water spigots.

Campgrounds were so clean and well setup. We met such great people, from a distance of course. The on-site management was very friendly and welcoming. Glad we got to experience this, we will be back!
