We tent camped in Black Rock Campground Site 81, which was at the top of the hill and rather private. The site had some nice Joshua trees in it. The walk down to the bathroom wasnt bad, though the narrow roads getting through the campground were in need of repairs. The bathrooms were clean and we were glad to have flush toilets. It was a short drive to town and to a few other park entrances. We enjoyed our stay.

This is a nice quiet corner spot with little traffic with flat areas large enough for 2 6-person tents. Good view of the sky. It is one of the farthest spots from water and bathrooms which is good if you want it quiet and dark but maybe challenging if you have small child who needs to potty in the middle of the night.

My friends and I really enjoyed the camping site. It was a little dark during our walk to the restroom but other than that everything turned out nice! We had an amazing time! We definitely want to go again.

Not the best spot if it's your only site. It was fine because we also had site 82 as well.

One of best campgrounds. Quiet and clear sky

Everything run-down and dirty. One of the bathrooms wasn't working so we had to walk far just to pee. Staff was not friendly or helpful, just pointed to some fliers we could look at instead of telling us about the campground. Road has pot holes everywhere.

No-frills campsite with stunning views located just out of town.

We arrived at the campground with 3 cars because our group was coming from 3 different cities and meeting at Joshua tree. Since only 2 cars are allowed at the campsite, I asked staff person at the check-in office what we can do and she suggested we car-pool. Horrible (and very stupid) suggestion since we were all already there. We asked about the overflow parking lot and she told us we were allowed to park there. She then made us purchase an extra campground to accommodate a third vehicle. Come to find out she was wrong and we could use overflow prking. Unfortunately didnt find that out until the very last day as we were packing up to leave. I would give this campground 4 stars if the staff was more competent! The roadways to get to the camp sites were worn down and difficult to maneuver otherwise I wouldve given them 5 stars. Anyways the experience was great overall - I just cannot deal with incompetent people.

The campground could use some maintenance, roads are in terrible shape, but overall a good place to camp when visiting Joshua Tree. No dark sky experience here since town is so close. The camp provides a quite setting compared to being in the main park. The trails around the camp are great with very few people.

Nice sunset views, few trails to get on.

A very nice campground all around. It has a couple of nice trails to try and water is readily available. This was my first time here at this campground and I would stay here again. Part of its appeal is the closeness to the town for those times when something has been forgotten or lost.

A beautiful quiet campground with great views looking over Yucca Valley. Lots of excellent hiking options accessible from the campground in all directions without having to go into Joshua Tree proper. Bathooms have running water and are clean, picnic tables are high quality. Being allowed to have camp fires was awesome for the cool nights. Only thing to keep in mind is that the sites are all very different, ranging from big to small, to flat or uneven and rocky, so not all will accommodate multiple tents. If its just yourself, they should all be fine.

Road is very rough, and make sure to bring a map to find your site as signage is nearly nonexistent.

Camp ground is great and clean, easy to find you spot, beautiful view and close to town in case you forget something important. Unfortunately our date was bad weather, winds 15-25 regular and pickup to 55 miles per hour, and was cold (we from LA so 59-62 degrees is cold for us. So my suggestion is don’t go if weather is not great. We stayed at site 81 and it was very convenient with the size for all of our staff and it a lot.
Enjoy and don’t forget to visit the park (it’s out side the campground). Cheers.

Clean bathroom. Easy checkin. Host came by each day to check if we had any questions.
We were there mid March and it was windy and cold. Bring a beanie.
