I camped at Black Rock for six nights and had a great time. The sites are close together but not too close. Town is right outside the campground, which is wonderfully convenient and makes it easy to explore. The campground is tucked away between the ridge lines, so although you can see the lights of Joshua Tree to the north, the sky is clear and the nights are relatively quiet. The Nature Center is great, with a small art gallery and friendly rangers to give recommendations for the area. Hi-view nature trail is a must!

Clean, Beautiful and close to town. Very convenient. The camping slots are perfectly placed between having privacy and enough space. I felt very safe. There is access to multiple trails.

good campground. I really like it, but the only thing that the restrooms closer to our spot was closed for repairs and the only one was kund of far. and there were no valves to get water in other spots of the campground other that the restrooms

There is very little directional signage which was awful when arriving close to sundown. We grabbed the only map available but it was for the entire JTNP so quite useless since we needed one for the campground...but none was available to take with us! Took us about 20 minutes of driving around to finally find our site. The roads are in ***horrible*** shape. The bathroom closest to us was shut down and the first night we showed up we had to have our own toilet paper for the one bathroom that was servicing the entire campground. Worst of all, the sites are WAY TOO CLOSE together; it honestly felt like we had people in our site. And ***nobody*** enforced the 10pm quiet time. The incredible views couldn't make up for the lack of serenity, which....I camp to get away from bs, not to be immersed in it. It's a shame. I do not recommend this campground and would not camp there again.

Comfortable campground located right in the middle of Joshua Tree country. Note that the roads between campsites are pretty rough, so drive slowly, especially for low-sitting cars. The area can also be very prone to high winds, so be ready to stake down or weigh down anything that might blow away. Bathrooms were standard, spigots were a bit odd but totally functional. Slightly tricky to find the trailheads right out of the campground, but very nice that you don't even need to drive for some spectacular hikes.

Black Rock was an awesome experience! Definitely has "comforts" (running water + clean toilets), and as others have mentioned, you're pretty close to town so you can see homes / freeway, etc. at some parts. Our campsite was well situated to not face civilization, and so we thought this is a very nice, comfortable car camping experience. Having great hikes that are walkable from the campsite was really nice.As someone who lives 2 hours away from Joshua Tree, this is the perfect weekend camping trip getaway. If you're coming from really far out of town, there are likely better campgrounds that are more immersed in nature, unless you're prioritizing comfort.

Please note that Black Rock Canyon Campground is right next to the border of the park - we could see city lights from our site, though it wasn't that distracting.

Also, even if you're visiting in late November, be sure to bring a short T-shirt! (I didn't and it was quite hot in the afternoon.)

Sites do not feel crowded. Good and varied hiking trails start right at the campground, (get a map online or from the visitor center) no need to drive to a trailhead.

Great hiking right out of campground. Did Black Rock trail to Panorama Loop and Warren Peak. Spectacular views of Palm Springs, Mt. San Jacinto and San Gorgonio

The two campsites we booked were in a nice location of the campground that offered sweeping views of the canyon and felt relatively isolated from other campsites nearby. All the campground staff were super friendly and accommodating. I was even able to meet one of the campground hosts and had a nice discussion about our mutual travel experiences. I do like the huge rocks at the Indian Wells campground as my go to JT camp, but I have to say our camping experiences at Black Rock Canyon were just fantastic and crazy close to amenities if we had needs. Five star.

The camp hosts were very helpful with great hiking recommendations. There are enough hiking trails starting at the campground to keep a moderate hiker busy for days.

This is an awesome campground!
-When you get there to check in everyone is super nice and helpful! We were given some simple instructions and rules for the campsite and a map of the campground which was super helpful! It can be a little confusing to find your way at first but the map really helps along with the directions from the welcome center staff.
The host is there daily to be of assistance in any way, I believe they also drive around at least once every morning making sure things are running smoothly and to be if help if need be.
-The bathrooms are wonderful for campground bathrooms! They have a few stalls in both the women and men’s, with doors that lock tile floor, mirrors and soap along with well running sinks! They were always clean and up kept daily.
-Each campsite has their own table and fire pit. All the campsites around ours that we could see were clean and nicely laid out.

Always a pleasure staying in this camping site. Make sure to bring strong tent stakes. Ground is really hard!

Many of the sites back right onto each other with little privacy between them. Some sites are much better than others. Easy to get to from the main park area with just a quick drive through town. Proximity to town means you have cells service (Tmobile and ATT at least).

Lots of joshua trees and a nice view of the night sky. The campsites are almost on top of each other so you're very close to your neighbors, and the ground is at an incline so finding an even spot for your tent is difficult (site 78). Verizon gets weak cell service here.

First, we felt very fortunate to get a campground; however, the camping spots were ridiculously close together. We were next to a very active Boy Scout troop. The "rangers" were VERY rude! They were driving around and stopped at our spot to advise us that they did not like the way our car was parked - they made no effort to quiet the loud group next to us. I would NOT recommend this campground due to the close proximity to other campers - you may get lucky with a respectful group, but don't count on it!
