I loved this campsite. We came for the sky view during the meteor shower and it did not disappoint. The campsite had enough flat areas for tents and was a good size. The bushes and small trees helped it feel a bit more private. Having water and restrooms close by was a great benefit! Loved having the convenient hiking trails to hit during the day. We will be coming back for sure!

Nice family campground with a short drive to Joshua Tree. Everything was well maintained and very clean. We will be back.

The Blackrock campground is nice but a bit tight and crowded. The Joshua Tree forest there is incredible, thick and big trees. We were there the Saturday before Easter (so probably a bit more crowded than usual). The campsites are very tight and it can be noisy.

Gorgeous views and nice hiking in the area plus tons of Joshua trees. Being outside the park limits made driving to places inside take longer but it also meant cell service - and real bathrooms!

This campground is one of most poorly managed campgrounds I have ever seen. The roads inside the campground are broken, no sign posts for one way or two way traffic. If you come at night, it'll be very difficult to find your campsite and a right spot to park the car. The bathrooms also need some updating, no hooks inside the toilet to hang toiletry bag, etc. Overall, it feels like this campground has been long due for some serious maintenance.

This is a great campsite for getting in and out of the park to easily get supplies in TwentyNine Palms. The sites don't feel too close together although it wasn't crowded when we were there so it wasn't overly noisy. Bathrooms were immaculate and I highly recommend this site.

This campground was beautiful! It's on a hill so you get views of the valley and hills around you but the campsites are all level. The campground is in a "forest" of Joshua Trees which really aren't trees at all. After seeing the other campgrounds driving through the park I'm very glad we chose this one.

Unfortunately, our boy scout troop had an unpleasant encounter with the park ranger, which tainted a lot of the positives they had camping in Joshua Tree. Specifically, regarding this Recreation.gov site: it doesn't post all the rules of the campgrounds. There's a line somewhere on your reservation sheet that says you should always check the campground for rules, but since there's more than a page of rules spelled out, we assumed the rules were all there. For capacity, it said 6 people and 2 vehicles - which we complied with. But when we got to the campground and set up, we had 6 or seven tents (many campers were tenting single) and the ranger was incensed that we weren't following the 3 tent limit rule - which we didn't know about. Not only was he really mean and nasty, even though we immediately said we'd change tents and put more people in each one, but we got a $130 citation. Mind you, this was at 9:30 PM with 15 scouts under the age of 15, after we'd only arrived 1-1/2 hours earlier, set up in the dark, and were ready for bed. Reserver beware! Check the actual campground for the rules - don't rely on what you receive from Recreation.gov!

Restrooms were clean Visitors center / Gift shop was well stocked but very pricey 30 bucks for a beanie ! Volunteer Park Rangers were rude and not very friendly. Great camp spot.

Not my first time at Joshua Tree, but Black Rock was a nice campground because it was fairly quiet (had respectful camp neighbors, and it wasn't inside the main park). Great Ranger, who came by to check on us and made sure everything was fine.

Beautiful campground with lovely, mature Joshua trees! Restrooms were good too. Download a map of the campground to take along. Some of the sites and roads are a little hard to make out in the dark.

Site 51. Very close to sites next to it. Not a ton of privacy being the desert and all. Very close to water spigot and short walk to bathroom and dumpster. Roads were awful. No ants or other bugs at all, which was great. High winds, stake down everything. 8 minutes to turn if you forgot anything, they don't sell wood but it's right inside the wal mart outdoor section. Ranger was very nice and patient. About 30 minutes to the main entrance of the park fyi.

Finally scored a campsite here over thanksgiving weekend. Only stayed a night but we loved waking up to the Joshua tree surrounding us. Campsites are just a tad close to each other but we didnt mind it. Water was closely available to us, and so were the restrooms. There are a few trails nearby. Wed love to come back here again!

With Black Rock Campground, you need to be aware of what you are going to get. You will be an hour outside the main part of the park. You will have to spend an hour to drive in and an hour roughly to drive out (depending on where you are in the park). The trade offs are a campground with full cell service, as well as very clean flush toilets. Knowing that, Black Rock does exactly what it is advertised, and I found it to be a very great campground and very clean.
