Joshua Tree National Park itself is awesome. The Black Rock Canyons Campground needs serious updating, especially the driveway pavements and bathrooms.

Site amenities were great. Camp host had a power trip. Rude and a constant nuisance. Very windy during our stay. Would not recommend tent camping.

This particular site #30 is secluded from other campsites and have more privacy after dark. I went in the end week of December so it was very cold in the night, but warm during the day. The night sky was partly cloudy but still we were lucky to see so many stars and it was amazing. As others have said, visiting this national park once is not enough, so we have booked again to see stars in the night sky.

Loved our time here! The campground has many old huge Joshua trees all through out and in the campsites! There are hiking trails you can explore right from the campground which is nice. The check in building has a small visitors center which was helpful. Keep in mind this im campground has you entering from Yucca Valley and you will need to drive around to enter the park.

End campsite without any neighbors. At the end of a road so campsite can be very large if you expand out into the road. There is a hiking trail that runs along the edge of the campsite so regularly had people walking by. More than enough room for our car and 16 foot (expanded) popup trailer. Site has a decent angle requiring leveling.

Great spot, truly enjoyed the experience to spend time in JTree at this beautiful location.

This was my 7th visit to the park, but my first overnight camping and i loved it! The stars! The campground was very clean and we had a great site that was quite large. Only downside - which had nothing to do with the part - was that someone stole all our firewood. It was crazy windy and we couldn't leave lawn chairs out while we took our campervan through the park so it appears someone picked up our wood and went home - I guess assuming we had left. But the park is so beautiful that it did not dampen our spirits and given the wind our fires were very minimal so we made it through.I look forward to returning and doing more hikes. I still have not seen half of what the park has to offer!

Nice Campground & Campsite. We went Early January, so it was cold as to be expected. the site was clean, and close but not too close to the restrooms. It is near the trailhead, so we had some hikers that we said hello to while we drank coffee. Hiking options abound. Having firepits for toasting marshmallows is trey bien. 11/10 would recommend. Winter trail running haven. Wear sunscreen. even in Winter

Bathrooms were nice. The staff kept on top of any issues with stopped up toilets and water collecting on the sinks. Having drinking water nearby and flush toilets made our 3 night stay very comfortable. We stayed in camp site #30 and many hikers came by looking for the tailhead. We were able to point them in the right direction, but you may want to consider a larger sign on the trail head.

I like this campground but only if I can reserve site 30 which is away from other campsites. I dont like hearing generator noise from big rvs. blackrock is only 50 miles from my house so I do go there a couple times a yr. I was not happy the office was closed however .

The camp site was very clean and animal proof trash cans were available. Bathrooms were also very clean and were cleaned often. We stayed at site 30 which was in the back, it’s next to a trail head so a few people walked by which was fine, very nice visitors. Saw a coyote and heard them yipping close to our site which was a little frightening, but nothing happened. I think one of them was trying to get to the trash but walked away once it saw me. Only other thing to note is how windy it got, couldn’t stake our tent down due to hard ground so we had to scavenge for large boulders too tie down our tent to.

I stayed at Campsite #30, checking in on Sunday May 16, 2021 and leaving on Friday May 21. The campsite does not have much level ground, but I found a good spot for my tent next to a juniper tree. The site is higher than the other sites in the campground and offers a good view of the desert to the north. On the one hand #30 has more privacy than many other campsites in that it is well separated from them, but it has less privacy because the trail to the Panorama Loop-West Side Loop trail systems runs next to it. Many hikers passed by while I camped here.

Secure your food because local jays are quite bold and will swoop down quickly to steal whatever they can while you are even a short distance away.

I liked that hiking was available right out of the campground without having to drive anywhere. Hiking is enjoyable up Black Rock Canyon to the Panorama Loop, Warren View, or Warren Peak, or on the West Side Loop. The High-View Nature Trail off the West Side Loop was a nice evening walk.

A larger trail system runs from near the bottom of the campground. I hiked up the California Riding and Hiking Trail to where it meets the Upper Covington Flat Road, then returned over Eureka Peak (good views) and the Burnt Hill Trail. Some of this hiking, especially on the Riding and Hiking Trail, is on loose sand, which makes it more difficult.

I brought my own water for drinking, but water is available at the campground. The bathrooms were kept clean and well supplied. The campground host was friendly and helpful.

This is a great campground with very clean bathrooms (flushing toilets!), plenty of water spigots, and beautiful scenery. Do not wash your dishes at the water spigots, as it tends to attract bees. Several different trail options for hikes out of camp. We were in Site 30, one of the highest and furthest from the road. Pros: away from most other sites (less noise), good trail access right out of your site, good view down the valley, bathrooms close but not too close. Cons: foot traffic nearby due to the trail, day use hikers want to park in your site (this is not allowed and clearly signed but some idiots still try), the site is not level and there is only a small flat spot for a 2 or 3 person tent max. Ranger station right in the campground is staffed during the day for park info. No vehicle access to the main Joshua Tree park road from campground, you have to go out to town and back in a different entrance.

We love Joshua Tree and typically go there once a year. Usually everything is great and this time there were a few hiccups. First, our campsite #30 was right at a trailhead... people were often confused and walking through our campsite instead of being on the trail. If you aren't up for a bunch of people cruising through, pick a different spot. The camp host was super chill and just an all around nice guy. My husband and I had 4 kids with us and when it was my 2 year old's nap time, I put them in my car to watch a movie and relax- the ranger approached and said that my car was too loud to be on. She explained that generators have certain times they are allowed to be on and I needed to turn my car off. I would understand if I had a huge diesel truck or something- I drive a hybrid minivan! It is so quiet, you can hardly tell it is even running. That was disappointing and she just seemed to have a negative attitude, which is not something you want when you are camping. All in all, a really nice campsite, clean bathrooms, some noisy people but nothing too crazy.

The Black Rock campground is really beautiful with soo many picturesque yucca palms and convenient access to bathrooms and water. This location is also technically outside of the park, so you don't have to deal with any lines at the entrance to get to your camp! My one complaint is specific to spot #30, in that it's right at a trailhead, so people who are accessing the trail were often walking right through our camping area and very close to our tents, which is not ideal privacy-wise (nor in regards to still existing in a pandemic).

Left early to much wind .I was at campsite 30 not much privacy there people we're walking right through my campsite. There needs to be better signage. People think there walking on a trail so they end up right in your campsite so I ended up being a traffic cop. The campsite is large that was the positive side but no privacy .I learned a lesson to read description and not go by the picture also there was no level ground .Campsite next door 29 looks good !??
