Campground facilities were excellent: bathrooms were clean and stocked with TP, campsite had nice fire pit & separate grill, gravel had been added to a deep trench in the dirt road to help with driving. Surrounding trails were beautiful, well-maintained, and not crowded. This side of the part is much less crowded than other areas. Our only suggestion would better signage, such as a more clearly marked exit route. Would love to stay here again! Thank you, NPS workers!

Roads in the campground are narrow and need some work. Otherwise, quiet, clean and beautiful.

So quiet! Very relaxing. Perfect for looking at the stars. Staff in Nature Center and Site host were very helpful. Site 29 was a bit sloped but still found a good spot to pitch tent. Good cell reception. Restrooms were clean and working. Access to water if needed. Just a five minute drive to stores for last minute supplies. Came across a rattlesnake while hiking but it wasnt interested in us and kept moving. Had a pack of coyotes trot through site around dinner time but they werent interested in us either. Definitely planning on returning to perfect October weather in 2025.

This was a good site for privacy, apart from a few people walking through it thinking it was part of a hiking trail. Deep ruts gave us some issues parking and re-hitching our 17 travel trailer, but our rig and TV are well equipped for that. The roads in the campground are terrible. Calling them roads is a stretch. The bathrooms in the campground are terrible. BYOTP for sure. Despite proximity to town, cell service wasnt super strong, but I used Starlink for necessary work stuff.

This was our first time in Joshua Tree and it didn't disappoint. The campground was great with each spot nicely spaced out, so the privacy was good. There was nothing between our RV and the wilderness and the birds and chipmunks that scour the camp looking for food. The trails were good, well marked and not too difficult or too long. We're definitely going back and will stay in a different campground as they all seem to offer different environments. This was early December and it was cold at night, cool early in the AM and warm in the afternoon. Sunrise was amazing. Just do it.

Overall, I really liked this campground. The staff were friendly and helpful and the proximity to hiking was excellent. The road through the campsite is very broken up. The washrooms were clean and the campground was well taken care of.

We had a lovely evening and enjoyed the sunrise at our campsite. Be sure to bring levelers for your RV as the site may not be flat. Bathrooms were clean, checkin was easy and the campground was quiet. I would come again!

Nice campground with a wonderful view

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this site. Id say its one of the prettiest in the campground. The bathrooms were clean, water wasnt far from the site either. The site wasnt totally flat so our tent was at a slight angle but that was fine. We would definitely come back!

The roads inside the campground badly need to be repaired. I asked for a site suitable for an RV and nowhere on the site was it level, which is important for an RV.

Beautiful spot, facilities excellent

We had a short stay here but was really impressed with the easy access to trails and the fact that it wasn't too far off the beaten path (still had cell service and shopping centers were 5 minutes away). We had a site backed up to the trail head so had a great view and was pretty quiet. One thing to note is further in and closer to the trails you go, the more uneven the roads and sites are. Leveling an RV could be a challenge in some sites. Also, during winter it gets really cold and windy at night.

Fabulous

Campground has plenty Joshua Trees with them casting some shade on many sites.
@RickG229 · Camped on May 17, 2021 at Campsite #29
This is a nice campground. The campground host was very pleasant and helpful. The grounds are kept neat and clean although the roads within the campground are in need of repair, but that's not a big deal. We stayed at site#29 which is HUGE! We could have it a circus tent on the site. #29 is close to a trail head and we did hear hikers walking by well after midnight. In the still of the night the hikers sounded like they were right in our camp but that was just because it was so quiet.
It's important to note that this campground is NOT within the actual park. The trails are decent and offer a good view of the desert but to really get the good views and hikes you need to go into the park. The nearest entrance to the park is in Joshua Tree and it will cost $30 for a seven day pass...IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!
The restrooms in Black rock are clean and there is potable water available. There are NO showers.
Overall our experience was a good one.

We really enjoyed this campground.
However, some improvements to the roads are needed. The campsites need to be leveled. The restrooms need hand dryers or switch to hand sanitizer. Signage for the campsites & trails is a bit confusing & needs improvement.

The Panorama Loop is my second favorite hike in JOTR, Boy Scout Trail is my first.
I have hiked around 40 different trails / routes in JOTR.

Campsite was clean and had an amazing view.

Certainly a great campground. Not as remote and primitive as other Joshua Tree areas, but being able to make reservations is a nice convenience. Staff is good; everything is well maintained. Lots of nice hiking trails are well marked and easily reached. The only minor drawback is that several of the campsites are not level; some can be actually challenging. All in all, its one of my favorite spots.
