This campground was located perfectly to visit Joshua Tree National park as well as 29 palms and the surrounding area. I slept in a tent for 2 nights at Black Rock Canyon campsite. It was secluded enough to have a private camping experience yet still only about 10 minutes away from food and coffee options as well as a Walmart. The campgrounds and bathrooms were extremely clean and well maintained. Other campers were very respectful and I felt very safe. Rangers were on site by 7:30am and making rounds shortly there after. Highly recommend, would definitely come back and would like to thank everyone who made this a wonderful experience for a not super experienced camper like me.

Nice facilities, for tent camping its good to search for roomier sites. Bathrooms clean and with water. Great location near many trailheads. We stayed here then next day moved truck to close by trailhead parking.

First time staying at Black Rock Campground, the ranger was nice, accessible campgrounds from roads was easy, and shopping in town and dining was convenient and close by to campgrounds.

Appreciated the limits on generators and the spaced out sites. Camp host and staff were great. Finding trailheads from the campground it self was tricky. I only wish is that showers were available.

The staff at the park was so friendly, invested and helpful.Loved hiking in this area. We are sorry we had to leave early due to a family issue and the oncoming threat of flood, and we hope to get back (from CT!) one day!

Ranger Craig B at Joshua Tree Black Rock Campground is a STELLAR human being, attentive, compassionate, competent, engaging, and sensitive to the needs and wants of others. Altho it was brief, I enjoyed ever single minute of our scintillating conversations. HE IS A REAL KEEPER!!

There were many Joshua trees surrounding our site, a lovely community of campers, and easy access to water and bathrooms. (There is no water within the park, so I appreciate that there was water at the campground although its kind of a drag to have to keep leaving the park to go to the campground.) The wind was super intense sometimes at night and did not reflect the generalized weather report, so I recommend looking at what the park reports about wind speed. The nature center was lovely and had some nice kids programs like art making and nature workbooks. Taking the kids rock scrambling in the park during the day and then making a fire at night under the stars was lovely.

Not a great campsite. Nice joshua trees in the campground but super close to town in yucca valley, so you can easily see all the houses to the point that it feels like it defeats the purpose of camping. Sort of far away from most hikes, not great for stargazing because of nearby town, and no privacy between the campsites.

Great campground! We loved our stay in Joshua Tree and stayed here and at Jumbo Rocks Campground. Loved them both for different reasons. Will definitely return!

When the wind picks up from the yucca valley side, the RV dump station poop smell goes right into the campground. The sites are so close together, it's like you're sharing a site with someone else. Smallest sites I've ever seen. It's a desert, yes, so I wouldn't expect shade, but there's no place to put a tent on the ground because there aren't many flat spots. There are a lot of Joshua trees in the campsite, but not usable for shade. The only positive is the bathrooms are real bathrooms and the location is so close to the national park.

Air is very fresh and there's little to no light pollution to see the stars at night.

Great camp, neighbors were quiet, though it was windy, not the campsites fault. Restrooms were clean!

Nice campground overlooking Yucca Valley. Super convenient, quiet and well-maintained. Good camp sites, not very private, but with with Joshua trees for shade. Bathrooms were clean and staff at the visitors centre were very helpful. Interesting hikes of different lengths start from the campground.

The setting at Joshua Tree is just spectacular. The campground was a wonderful way to enjoy it. Trail heads right from campground. We had two pups with us, and though dogs not allowed on many trails, the dirt road past the fire station towards the High View Nature Trail Loop was just perfect for a good morning walk. Bathrooms were very clean. Just be sure to take a good look at the description of each campsite, as each is different and some may not be easy to maneuver in RV's due to slope or narrowness. The campsite seemed to accommodate everything from cars with tents to big RV's. Also, keep in mind that this campground is not accessible from the main drives through the park. It is located at the northwest corner of the park, and you get to it by going through Yucca Village. Overall a great experience. Highly recommend.

The campsites were very close together, so there is minimal privacy. Running water was available but the outdoor water faucet was absolutely covered in bees. Made doing dishes and filling water canteens difficult/scary. The information center and gift shop were very nice. I was able to get all the information I needed. Driving in to the park was quick and easy, about 20 minutes to the park entrance. I will be camping here from now on whenever I visit Joshua Tree. The convenience of potable water and clean bathrooms made our stay nice. The bathrooms inside the park were disgusting, and there is no running water inside the park.

Great campsite with large sites, clean bathrooms and flush toilets, and set amongst stands of Joshua Trees. Rangers were very friendly and helpful. It's also very close to Yucca Valley in case you need anything from town.

My brother and I visited Black Rock and had an amazing time. The camp site is very clean and the other campers were very friendly. The bathrooms were well maintained. The site is about 10 minutes from local grocery stores which is convenient. We didn’t bring enough wood so we made a few trips back and forth. You still feel like a million miles away regardless of how close the stores are. I highly recommend this camp site.

Beautiful Joshua trees in campground. Biggest ones in the park. Night sky was very dark despite being so close to urbane area. Campsites are kind of crammed together. That was not much of a problem except we had not so good neighbors. One large bunch was loud and drinking, playing music, and had a smoky fire. We got the smoke. Could hear one neighbor snoring. They could probably hear me snoring. One neighbor (drunk) playing movie on side of his trailer and had his head lights on too much, which of course shined on us. Someone farther away had generator going until 10 PM.I know this sounds bad, but I would stay here again. Just the neighbors, Ugh! Would try to get campsite more inside the park next time and camp between the big rocks.Overall Joshua Tree National Park was very impressive.

Easy to find and navigate, great restroom facilities that were clean. Excellent proximity to the park without being in the park. The campsites are extremely close together, so don't expect to have any private conversations or feel like you're "in nature", and definitely bring earplugs if you want to go to bed before the night owls. Neighboring campsite tents will be within 15 feet of your tent or less, and other guests will walk through your campsite to get to restroom at all hours.
