We stayed here only one night, but it was wonderful. The campground is beautiful with all the yucca trees scattered about, the facilities were good, and having a trailhead right there in the campground was perfect. We will definitely be back again.

Nice campground with beautiful surroundings. The camp sites are nice and spread out. I very much enjoyed my stay here

We enjoyed our visit to the Black Rock Joshua Tree campground and were in site 90. Thankfully, we have a campervan and we're able to park there. This would NOT be a good site for anything larger than our 25 foot unit.The only thing was that the power was out and the bathroom lights were dark. Also, we tried to visit the Visitor's center and it was closed. Otherwise, it was fine. Site 90 is definitely not level, but , we managed to find a spot because we are so small. Entrance to many of the sites there are very challenging especially to vehicles that have to cross over high curbs. It can be an issue with vehicles that have a lower clearance like our van, be careful.

Nice clean site near bathrooms, large enough for 2 cars but not completely level. Fire pit, grill, and picnic table were in good condition. Overall good!

The hiking trails are great. Our campsite was not level and it was challenging to get our camper van into a semi-level position. The staff were wonderful and friendly.

The roads in the campground were in poor condition- badly washed out. I realize there were extreme rainfall events last year, but it seems like it is time to proceed with repair, even if they are temporary repairs using gravel to infill the gulleys. Several guidebooks mention a "Nature Trail" near the Black Rock Nature Center, with a printed trail guide sheet available at the Nature Center. The rangers at the Nature Center were unable to direct us to the trailhead, and no trail guide pamphlet was available. On the positive side, the bathrooms were clean.

The campground was good in that it was both close to the Joshua Trees and close to the town of Yucca Valley. However, the roads around the campground were TERRIBLE. They originally had been paved but they have not had any maintenance in more than a decade, maybe two decades. There were huge potholes and large cracks everywhere. It would be better to just tear up the pavement and put down gravel. I know that the area has huge rainstorms when they happen but how hard would it be to just put down gravel on top of the mess that they have now.On the good side, the campground had water which only one other campground has and the bathrooms were passable. There was only one water spicket which was a bit of a walk but if you bring a large water container, you should have no problem.

The campground appears to have suffered severe storm damage with gullies across campground roads There is a lack of signage which makes finding your campsite very difficult. I suggest that the NPS needs to close down the campground for long enough to do a major overhaul. This is a shame because Blackrock is one of only 2 major campgrounds at Joshua Tree and with proper repair and maintenance it would be a lovely campground.

Well situated for hiking. However the roads in the campground are awfull, really bumby and full of holes. Need a lot of reparations. The sites are not well indicated, we had to turn around a few times to find our spot.

The roads are terrible here. I was afraid I would hit my generator which is mounted under the coach. The sites were not level and had lots of drainage areas. I used shovel to try to even out the dips.

Beautiful location. However, this national park campground needs more maintenance than weve ever seen before. Perhaps the recent storm caused severe erosion, but the place is in desperate need of some additional funding.

seamless online reservation; including a "day of" change; the restrooms were clean enough, but the outside water taps were out of service ... Wonderful campground!!!

Great campsite (90) for people who arent big on camping. Not too far from the Highway, right next to residential area so you always feel safe. Plenty of bathrooms, and easy trails for newcomers.

This is a nice campground near enough to town for supplies if needed while being just outside the West entrance to the park. Joshua Tree is just beautiful, not only the trees but also the amazing huge rocks and the geology in general.
@BrianS9986332 · Camped on Jan 29, 2023 at Campsite #90
The roads in this campground ate terrible. Not much maintenance of anything appears to be done here. Most sites are not easy to level to. I liked Indian Cove much better. Glad this was only a one night stop.

The bathroom lights appear to be on a photocell meaning it can be really dark inside even if it is still light out. The pavement in the campground is in really bad shape and would have been better to have been graveled. While we would stay again the condition of the campground was less than expected. The WiFi at the ranger station was also disappointing. On a positive note there is some great hikes right from the campground.

We enjoyed our stay at Black Rock campground in our 22' motor home. This campground is one of the few that take reservations in Joshua Tree and that is how we ended up there. It's very close to the town of Yucca Valley and you can see lights from town in the distance, so not perfect for star gazing. The Joshua Trees were actually blooming around the campground so we felt very lucky!There is running water and a dump station, so that's handy.

Site 90 was great and then the folks in the office helped us get one more night. It is cool that there is water here. Night sky was awesome and Will the camp host was very helpful!
