Not suitable for a 25 Class C motorhome (or anything similar). We pulled in with our 25-foot Class C and immediately hit problems. Recent rains left deep ruts and washouts across most sites. Tent campers and high-clearance vans will be fine and enjoy the quiet and dark skies, but for a low-to-the-ground motorhome, Black Rock is a struggle. Beautiful area, just not built for motorhomes.

The campground is not up to standards of most national parks we have visited in other areas of the USA. The vista's are fantastic and the scenic road through the park is very good. The campgrounds along that route had decent roads through them. However the black rock campground even with water and modern restrooms had the worst roads for the loops. Bad enough to make walking on them in the dark a real adventure.

The roads in the campground were abysmal. Boon-docking off road would be better. The campsite was so sloped that it was difficult to get the trailer anywhere near level. The rest of Joshua Tree is just beautiful. Everywhere you go in the park is full of amazing sites and great hiking trails.

Red ants and tons of bugs at night, but that's the experience right? Great campground. Nice bathrooms. The set up is perfect. Best campground in the park.

Although Joshua Tree NP is amazing, our campground was pathetic. Terribly ruted dangerous roads to campsites, bathrooms had no hot water, toilet paper, soap, and were filthy. Mentioned bathroom problems to employee and he agreed, saying it's been a problem for awhile.

The campground could actually be quite nice if the bathrooms and roads/driveways would get a major makeover. Evidently the latest rain storms created some scary ruts and pavement damage. On the upside, the campground is a great base camp for a lot of interesting hikes.

The campground is in a corner of Joshua Tree National Park. Other than a few hiking trails it is largely isolated from the rest of the park. You have to drive several miles east on CA 62 to find an entrance to the park that you can drive through.

If you are new to camping, this campground might be a good choice. But my wife and I avoid campgrounds and prefer to go to remote areas to spend the time outdoors. The campground was your typical campground with people building fires without needing them other than just having a campfire. The smoke from their fires floated over our site. There were noisy campers wanting to share their loud music with everyone. It was the typical Instagram crowd who cared nothing about the outdoors other than taking their pictures to show everyone what an outdoor adventurer they are.If you are a first-time visitor to the campground, don't go there when it's dark, you'll get lost as the place is badly signaged. Go there during the daytime. The town of Yucca Valley is about 5 miles away if you need supplies, restaurants, gas, etc. We'll avoid the campground as well as other campgrounds in the future.

Campsites not very level for RV,,,,blacktop roads in campground not well maintained. No spectacular views from campground as there are other campgrounds further in the park.

I loved Black Rock campground. You are surrounded by Joshua Trees, have good space at each site, and the bathrooms are nice, spacious, and clean. Beautiful stargazing at night! Also love the campground access to some great hiking trails. Highly recommend the Panorama loop!

It is a little shameful that a National Park campground was so poorly maintained. Yes, bathrooms were clean and the sites had solid picnic tables but the condition of the roads, the sites themselves were simply pathetic. The ranger (?) in the visitor center made sure to recite to me all the rules of what one shall not do - standard fare for a National Park, but I NEVER actually saw a ranger in the campground. And the visitor center was more of a souvenir operation with a whole room dedicated to children art pictures instead of information about the park, its history and natural features. I wonder if I have seen better displays at a KOA. The setting, the trees, the spring blooms were lovely. The campground was disappointing and appeared to suffer from simple neglect or relegated to a budget after thought. I saw a number of visitors from other countries. As an American, I was embarrassed to claim this campground as a National Park. We can, and should, do better.

The campground is quite scenic with great access to hiking trails. It is an isolated campground in that it does not connect directly by road with the rest of the park so it takes some driving to get to the main park roads. The campground has suffered significant erosion in the 23 winter and while we were able to camp with a 24 ft Winnebago View I would say that is the maximum vehicle that could access here. We had an accessible spot but there were a number of spots that would require a high clearance vehicle to cross the erosion channels. The restroom facilities were immaculate and the ranger hosts were excellent.

Let me start with you don't need to pack much for this campground. There is a ton of restaurants and coffee shops in a very short drive. I was shocked and surprised to see Starbucks, a Huge Walmart supercenter, home depot, and a variety of restaurant options. Prices are very reasonable as well. So even if you plan on doing camp cooking, you can buy fresh produce at Walmart nearby. Clean bathrooms, clean campground, and most of the neighbors were very respectful (except on our last day there was a huge group of people partying late at night). The host also lives on the ground which is convenient if you need any assistance.

Great views, nice having Joshua Trees in the camp ground area. Bathroom we used was always clean. Sites have plenty of room. The nearby Panorama Loop trail is one of the best in all of Joshua Tree. One huge major problem is the condition of the roads in all sections of the upper campground area. Due to my own driving error not checking closely the extremely deep rut in the road on both sides.. the front and rear wheels of my Travato travel trailer became completely stuck and lodged deep into these ruts. I was only able to free the vehicle with the aid of another camper who had a 4 wheel drive truck and a strap to attach to pull me out. Recent rains is only making the roads worse. Maybe some gravel? Orange Cones? Warning Signs? Actually repave the roads?

Been to 40+ National Parks and by far Black Rock Campground has no equals when it comes to how the the place is maintained or in this case NOT maintained. Black Rock is an embarrassment to the NPS and needs to be closed and renovated. The grounds appear to have been ignored for decades, what little is left of the roads makes a motocross track look smooth, sites are terrible and washed out with ruts. Sorry for the harsh but truthful critique, but this place in no way resembles any other park campground we have visited and reflects poorly on our National Parks. Joshua Tree NP as a whole was very nice and is what we have come to expect, the Black Rock campground is horrible.

The roads in the campground are washed out and a mess. It was hard to even drive a trailer through the campground. And I mean a MESS. The row signage is non existent. And the signs leading to the campground are a different name than the campground, they say Black Rock Canyon Campground. Close enough but still confusing. So sad a national park campground could be in such a state.
