The campground has great amenities and you're right there in the park. There is not much privacy though (but that would be the case at about anywhere at the campground)

There is no site number information at the entrance to the campsite..!

Great experience. Took my little one for her first camping trip and she loved it. This site is pretty close to the restroom, which was important to us because of the kiddos. Not much shade in the afternoon though. Hiking trails are beautiful.

Excellent place to spend a night when in the Joshua Tree area. Staff was friendly and helpful and the site was clean with a beautiful backdrop for the sunrise. Highly recommend!

Appreciated a less busy campground with great access to hikes and good community vibe.

We camped among the Joshua trees at Black Rock Campground, enjoyed hikes on well marked trails surrounding the campground, and appreciated having the Black Rock Nature Center and staff right there in the center of the campground.

Probably the worst public campground ever! The roadway was TERRIBLE and poor signage.

Restrooms were not centrally located.

I asked the staff to make my reservation since I had no cell phone coverage and they were no help!

Not a pleasant experience…

Clean campground, excellent bathroom facilities and friendly rangers. Located in the park but outside the main gate - keep this in mind and get to the park entrance early to avoid long lines.

Good place to camp with family. Not isolated if you need quiet time as you are around a lot of others campers, but its good for kids and family.

Very friendly and helpful staffs are on the site to help you. Bathrooms are very clean and drinking waters are near by. Only down thing was they have lack of shaded areas. Hope they put more Joshua trees for shades. Other than this, I would recommend this place for a camping for a day or two.

Camping amongst Joshua Trees was beautiful. Nice campground, rest rooms were clean, had three stalls and two sinks. Check in was fast and easy. Friendly, family atmosphere.

Great camp - especially as a start to a Joshua Tree NP adventure. Great staff, clean restrooms, and clean campsites. Many hiking trails to explore, and although it doesn't give you direct access to the heart of the park, you can get maps, souvenirs, and advice from the rangers. Access to the heart of the park is just down the main road through the town of Joshua Tree.

Campsites are way too close to other sites. Privacy is limited when traveling alone but great if you’re traveling with friends/family and are able to occupy multiple surrounding sites.

This campsite was great! It was very big, clean, and felt very safe! We arrived at nighttime, so it was kind of hard navigating the campsite to find our spot. However, it was our first time at this site so we really had no idea where we were going. We had spot 37 which was very level and spacious, however the fire pit was not in an ideal spot, as it was pretty close to a tree! This site was close to the registration office as well as the restrooms, which was quite convenient! We recommend going into the park and doing the Barker Dam hiking trail! It was pretty easy-going and beautiful! Definitely hit up Joshua Tree Coffee Co. too, it's always a go to when we are in Joshua Tree.

Beautiful location. No park entry fee added on. Tidy and quiet campground. Helpful, friendly staff. Nice little souvenir shop. Pristine restrooms. Variety of trailheads for enjoyable hikes. Campgrounds throughout Joshua Tree were all proclaimed as FULL, but at Black Rock there were several empty sites the three days I was there. While I'm camping, that works for me, because I like calm. But what's going on? Are people getting away with hogging reservations they aren't using, when there are people who legitimately are seeking reservations they plan to respectfully actually use?I look forward to returning as soon as possible!

Black Rock campground is an OK place from which to begin exploring Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP). On the plus side, it is easy to get to and it offers easy access to stores, fuel, ice, booze, fast food, and all of the other amenities of civilization. On the minus side, it is easy to get to and it offers easy access to stores, fuel, ice, booze, fast food, and all of the other amenities of civilization. In short, it is "civilized" camping, not a wilderness experience. It was a bit loud on the Friday and Saturday nights we were there, with cars and trucks arriving late at night, the pounding of tent stakes, someone in a neighboring tent up all night sawing several cords of wood by the sounds of it, etc. By contrast, listening to the yips and yowls of the coyotes was a real treat. The main entrance to the park is further east and offers better opportunities for more remote car camping and backcountry hiking and camping. But, quibbles about Black Rock aside, JTNP is a gem and should be seen and experienced, and if you like "civilized" camping, Black Rock campground is a good place from which to begin sampling what the park has to offer.
