This is a great campground for beginners or just a quick easy get-away. It's not too far away from stores, gas stations and restaurants; has flush toilets with lighting; there's a nice little nature center with Park Rangers who can answer questions; there are fun hiking trails and it provides easy access to the park proper for day adventures. Safety and convenience, what more could you ask for?

Beautiful spacious site with shade from the Joshua Trees or sunshine in between. The trees are taller than in the park and you can see some interesting birds, like the Road Runner and cute looking ones sitting (and singing in the morning) of these sharp "leaves". Also a perfect place to see and photograph a wide sky with zillion of stars. We enjoyed our stay very much and will come back for more ... We spend the day driving/walking/hiking in the Joshua Tree NtP and at the end we found the big trees we are looking fore right in the campground!

Campsites are a bit close together. But there are many Joshua trees at the campground. And there are trails that takeoff from the campground. Nice flushing toilets. Air quality was really bad the couple days I was there, 193.

The campsite was clean and well maintained. The running water was easy to access and a nice amenity. Hiking around the area was fantastic, accessible without moving the car.

We loved our stay at Black Rock Campground, site 35. The campsite was spacious and beautiful with Joshua Trees. There was a fire pit and a stand up charcoal bbq. There were two clean bathrooms nearby, but not too close. The nature center was great! The kids earned their Junior Ranger badges, and we all picked out a souvenir. The days were sunny and comfortable. As soon as the sun went down, the evenings/nights were cold and windy. Bring layers to wear! We loved our stay at Black Rock, and would definitely come back!

Week long stay. Easy check-in with friendly park staff. Camp ground host kept the campgrounds clean. Sandy, rocky area with tent spots pretty easy to see and level. Noise level varied. Weekday quiet with weekend a bit louder but noise low by 10-11. Nice trails too.

Nice spot, close to various trailheads. Signage for both campsites and trails needs improvement -- so many campers were driving around trying to find their sites! The campsite host didn't appear to be around.

Really nice facilities, easy access to park, hiking trails from campground and amazing sunset views. Spaces are rather small and too tightly packed together.

Quiet place with beautiful views of Joshua Trees along with nice walking/hiking trails around the campsite. Very clean restroom facilities and very clean campsites.

It was extremely difficult and frustrating to find our camp site when arriving after dark, there is minimal signage at best, poorly surfaced roads through the campsite and lots of potholes. The rest of our visit was adequate, rest rooms were clean, water was good, there was no excess noise, etc.We got a warning from park staff about not parking a second vehicle (a not oversize camper van) off the paved part of the camp site even though there was plenty of bare, relatively flat ground (gravelly/decomposed granite) next to the pothole filled road to park several extra vehicles. The campsites are widely spaced and not crowded. I guess the park service has some kind of silly rules about how only one vehicle is allowed when there is a single vehicle parking pad. I do not know if we could have used overflow parking for our second passenger car/SUV without violating the rules.

I ultimately did not stay. There were 40mph winds so I went to a hotel. I did drive around and the facilities were very nice and the staff friendly

New favorite campground! Super close to town and the park entrance. Bathrooms stay clean and the hosts make sure everyone is following the rules. Beautiful to camp amongst so many Joshua trees.

Camping under Joshua trees. Would stay here again on future trips to this park! This campsite has water, bathrooms, and access to a handful of hiking trails in the Northwest part of the park. While this campground is only a few minutes to Yucca valley and Pioneertown, campers should be aware that it is about 45-60min from many of the "main attractions" in the park. Plan accordingly for driving time.

We really enjoyed our experience at Black Rock! The sites are close together & its a bit lively at this campground, so if you prefer a more private experience this isnt that. Restrooms were easy to access and the picnic tables were nice & big. We had a small site but we had plenty of room for our large tent, an EZ up & an extra table. The nature center is in the campground where you can get maps, refill water bottles, and JTree swag! (Very important!) water access throughout. It was windy the first night and COLD, so bring plenty of firewood. You cant buy it at the campground but the State Bros nearby had plenty. We enjoyed our trip, the only bummer was that it was a good 45 minute drive to any points of interest inside the park.

Great campground for a quiet and peaceful stay. Good hiking trails right out of the campground. This spot is about 20 minutes from the main entrance to the park and it is easy to make day trips into other areas of Joshua Tree.
